Not being a troll here but what makes a good DJ? To me it looks like they are basically typing on a laptop. I could see having fun at a concert but they all kind of sound the same to me.

Think of them as a producer, which is what they are. What makes someone like Rick Rubin or Pharrell different than the rest.

I posted more or less the same thing and got bombarded with down votes. I didn’t think the OT demo would be into EDM

This and the quad joke ran out of steam quicker than any overdone jokes of days gone by.

If it’s so easy, why don’t you do it and get rich?

It's certainly not easy and even when they get popular, staying there is a bitch. Avicii is just the next one to fall hard even though he was still very successful.
David Guerra.
Kevin Rudolph is another one who fell off(alive tho) fast.

Talented guys but fade quickly. Takes luck and constantly working in studio for that next catchy tune or beat. Jason Derulo is a good example of success in that area. Thus his decade of hits and getting Endymion gig.

The dude was incredible. One of the best artists of the twenty first century. This is a huge blow to the music industry that will probably take decades to recover from. Gone way too soon. RIP

No doubt. Rigor Mortis and Acid Rock were goto jams before football games.
I appreciate that group is full of people my age and up and they seek out this kinda obscure music. Super Dave, Johnny Cage and others are all on it and contribute/share music and ole pictures.

And how many club songs and rappers went on to sample this song?

Mikelbr, you’ll shoot straight with me.

What does a DJ on this level do?

Because everyone that I know that DJs just plays other people’s music for weddings and parties and shite

Is it the record scratching or sampling that makes it this lucrative career for some at this level?

I mean, I enjoy techno. I discovered Lindsey Sterling and think I am in love. And technically that’s EDM, but she plays the fiddle and is a redhead.

But what does a DJ do to become a multimillion dollar sensation? Is it just marketing and self promotion? Do they make their own songs?

I’m kind of lost.

9 times out of 10, the very popular djs that pack out festivals and arenas are big time producers first

the gigs pay the bills

there are producers, who make the songs, and "DJs" who do the mixing and sets live. some guys do both
