What do you think this guy was doing Sunday morning?
Probably riding around in his patrol car or sitting at the police station. The entire engagement from start to finish lasted like 15 minutes I heard. I doubt he had time to change out of his Sunday best, put on his ninja clothes and drive over to Benny's to smoke some dude.

In no way am I saying that I could have made the shot that this hero did. I'm just saying that it's a shot I'd expect a SWAT make.

I think we've already established that you spend your free time playing Battlefield.
J/K
Seriously, you were doing a totally different job than the guy on the BRPD SWAT team. I'm guessing it's a lot different when you know you're in the middle of a war and when you have to shoot a guy at a car wash in Baton Rouge on a Sunday morning right?

Sometimes. Sometimes I was QRF. Not as different as you might think.

I know that's a shitty answer, but it's the right one.

Exactly. This dude was ready to roll and did his job well. He wasn't slamming beers by the pool when this kicked off.

Have you ever had to do that same thing on U.S. soil?

Why do you think this is important? A target is a target. Doesn't matter if it's in Helmand or Baton Rouge.

Everyone that deploys is apparently a drunken rage-lunatic.

Because I think environment matters. What are the chances this SWAT guy has the same experience as you? I'm not being an a-hole or anything. Are those guys usually ex-military? I know some SWAT guys in NOLA and only some of them are ex-military. Some have just moved up over the years.

Sure, but not at the level you think it matters.

I'd say near zero. Chances are good he has similar training and experience where relevant to this incident.

I've done commercial training with a lot of SWAT personnel over the years. Some were military and some weren't. A lot reservists. Some were just good officers.
What's with the obsession over military experience? I know plenty of military dudes that can't shoot for shite.

Because again, I think life or death environment would play a little role in all of this. If you've never taken on any live fire in your life and all of sudden you're on Airline Hwy trying to hit a moving target that's shooting at you I'd say that would be a little different than shooting on a range.
eta: I'm fully aware that you're probably the only guy that really has any right to say this is no big deal. Well, that's if you're not pulling a Tigerdave on us here.

I think the chance that a military guy has been trained to shoot people and statistically probably has. Or at least shot at them. Cops are trained defensively until have to become offensive (maybe I'm full of shite) where a military guy is taught to kill people. Sometimes I an ambush or unaware situation.

I didn't just roll out of bed one morning with the experience that I have. LCpl DisplacedBuckeye would have said the same things that I'm saying now.

I don't remember being the one that brought up my background. A few others did that when you tossed out your Call of Duty remarks.
*edit
I also want to reiterate for clarity that I've never said this was no big deal. I've said the opposite quite a few times. I think this guy is a hero and commend him. That doesn't mean 100 yards on a stationary or slow-moving, open target is difficult.
