For those of you that didn’t go to a private school - did your team kneel in prayer before games? I know the Catholic schools do this, but I don’t recall the public schools.

quote:

WSJ

WASHINGTON—The Supreme Court, siding with a football coach who knelt in prayer at the 50-yard line, ruled 6-3 that a school district cannot bar him from publicly exercising his faith on the field after the game, continuing a line of decisions lowering the wall between church and state.

School officials in Bremerton, Wash., argued that the coach, Joe Kennedy, commandeered the government-owned field to promote his faith to fans and students after the game, implicitly putting the district’s imprimatur on his brand of Christianity.

Raising it. If the state said he couldn't practice his religion, that would lower it.

They intentionally get everything backwards

This controversy seems so dumb to me. Separation of church and state never should have been interpreted as “a public employee can’t pray while at work”. That’s ludicrous.

We did the Lords prayer after football games at my public high school back in the late, late 90s...usually the other team(or at least some players) joined in.

What leftists don’t understand about the first amendment is its there to protect the church from government, not the other way around. As usual leftists are dead wrong and have things arse backwards.

I agree. But what if your kid was on the team and the coach did a satanic ritual before the game?

Technically he wouldn’t have to participate in the “prayer” but it would be weird no?

It's also not in our Constitution, even though people seem to reference it like it is.

I addended both private and public schools. Of course their was prayer at the Christian private school but there was also prayer at the public school and no one cared.

Weird? Yes.

Unconstitutional? No.

How does someone get a job writing, that clearly doesn't even know how to use a dictionary?

Oh, WSJ, opinion pieces, not written as an actual news story.

Wait, you mean to tell me that the SCOTUS ruled that the first amendment actually does mean what it says in plain English language?

I smell America….. and it’s sweet.

Should be the least surprising decision ever from a court, period.
