You have 100 lb of potatoes, which are 99 percent water by weight. You let them dehydrate until they're 98 percent water. How much do they weigh now?
Explain your answer.

There is one pound of not water which is 1%. So if one pound is 2%, 1/(2%) = 50

This has more to do with biology than math. You aren't going to have a linear answer.

I have one for you. I raise up my hand with 4 fingers extended, then slowly pull back down the pinky, ring, and index finger, what does that leave?

0.99times100-0.98(100-x)=x
99-(98-0.98x)=x
99-98+0.98x=x
1+0.98x=x
1+0.98x-0.98x=x-0.98x
1=0.02x

1/0.02=0.02x/0.02

Which gives the lost water as 50=x

And the dehydrated weight of the potatoes as:
100-x=100-50=50

Did you ever truly have 100lbs of potatoes?

1st page, and I'm pretty sure there's a dramatic weight loss...

like 50% or 49% weight loss (because it's starting off at 99)
