Get a Chevy Suburban.

Minivans aren’t that safe.

Suburbans can take a beating, but they are also much less fuel efficient and more difficult to park than a minivan.

You are paying at the pump (and upfront) for heavy towing and off road hardware that isn't really necessary.

Owned a 2008 Honda Odyssey touring.

When it came time to upgrade we got the Toyota Sienna Limited in 2016.

I prefer the Toyota, even the newer Odyssey’s ride a little stiffer which can suck on crappy BR roads. The Honda VCM system has proven to have mixed long term reliability. Many disable it.

Is there a reason why the Honda Odyssey's aren't as popular with the rental car companies? Seems like all I see are the pacifica and sienna?

If you have little kids, nothing beats a mini van. Just get over it and screw what anyone thinks. Don't go by looks.

Pacifica seems extremely popular which blows my mind. There's no way I'd trust a Crysler product over a Honda and Toyota to do the same job and last 120k+ miles of multiple kids beating on them.

Look at the Pacifica and the Sienna.

Don't get them too fancy. Your kids will leave candy stuck to the seats and remove all A/C knobs after a couple of years. Also, I hope you like the smell of old french fries. They are getting embedded to all surfaces of the car - even the ceiling - unless you regularly get in the back of that thing and scrub it.

Chrysler does minivans very well.

Toyota unloads a LOT of Camry's and Sienna's to taxi and rental companies. They go after that business and offer them deals.

Chrysler, General Motors, Ford, Nissan, and Hyundai/Kia all do that as well.

Honda and Subaru don't for some reason.

Chrysler knows their way around a minivan. The Pacifica is a very good product.

Trust me on this - over 120,000 miles, 3 younger kids will destroy the inside of all of those cars. Doesn't matter what brand.

We had a Toyota bread-box. It was the 1980s predecessor to the Previa.

It was a death trap that couldn't get out of its own way, but it was very reliable.

Sure, but again...better then Honda and Toyota? People can't seem to say enough bad things about Crysler so how do they just get the mini van right?

My wife wants a Pacifica likely as her next car. I just can't see making that decision over a Honda or Toyota.

ETA: My mom had a van growing up. Believe me I know they get wrecked. But still, I have a hard time believing the Crysler will hold up better then the Honda or Toyota. The one thing you almost never find complaints about Honda's and Toyotas is how well their interior holds up.

"people" say a lot of stuff that isn't always reality

Same. This, but in red.

Then we got an Astro. This exact color scheme. Learned how to drive in that Astro.

So their marketing is just terrible? I mean they aren't exactly killing it business wise.

I'm not saying the Pacifica isn't equal to the others. I just don't see enough evidence pointing to it being that much better then Honda and Toyota's to risk trying it.

Doesn't seem that way since you're confused as to why they're so popular

It may just be price. We briefly looked at mini-vans after our 2nd kid was born. The Grand Caravans we saw were considerably cheaper than the Odyssey's and Sienna's for similar year and mileage. Like around $5-10K if I recall.

Not sure if that is still the case. The Grand Caravans were pretty nice looking, but we never test drove one.

No, I'm fairly sure its the look. I agree they look the best right now and the least like a traditional mini van. But not that much better. Possibly the price too. I think they used to be a little cheaper then the Toyota's and Honda's but now seem to be pretty close.

I wasn't talking about Chrysler's marketing of the Pacifica, I agree they do a good job there. I'm saying of their brand and rest of their vehicles.

I just have a hard time getting over the fact that they have failed so much except for one vehicle currently.

Look at all the truck threads where people just shite all over Ram for things that they haven't had issues with since the early 2000s.

ETA: You're kind of an example. You're questioning their product for no legit reason since you don't have experience with it.

Didn't know my wife signed up on TD.
Hey honey, ever notice how my truck doesnt' have these issues? It's b/c i don't let the kids eat in the car every day. And the few times they do eat in the car, like on vacation, i clean up immediately.

Cars aren't kitchens. Living rooms aren't kitchens either. We eat in the kitchen, at a table.
