Sudden leg pain upper side of thigh

I think I’ve ruled out the aids, the gay, and cancer and don’t think I’m dying but for the past few months out of nowhere I get a shooting pain in the side of my left upper thigh. This is ridiculous pain that just comes on and stops me in my tracks for several minutes. It isn’t consistent and usually goes away after I lay down for awhile. I don’t know if it’s a muscle strain or some kind of pinched nerve all I know is it hurts like a mother fricker and is not fun.

Any other symptoms, or just leg pain?
I definitely think you should see your doctor, any kind of sudden shooting pain is not good.

Sciatica. Take ibuprofen for now. Maybe a cortisone shot if it gets worse.
If it persists on and off for many weeks go see specialist and get spine x-Ray and/or MRI.
I was stubborn and ignored it for years before treating it.

Radiculopathy/Sciatica is what it sounds like. Means you’ve probably got a nerve root getting pinched near your spine.
Common but can get Very painful.
Talk to your doctor if it gets to be a problem.

And you come here?
Well google told me I was dying of a bloodclot so figured I could try a second opinion here.

Are you having back pain too? You said it's on the upper left part of your thigh, sciatica would most likely affect your lower back and the back of your leg, not the front.

Nope no back pain. Just a sudden pain in the left leg below the hip. This is probably only the 4th or 5th time it’s happened in the past 3 months but it’s consistent enough when it happens to be a thing I think.

I’d say outer L2 is most of the pain

Does the pain radiate elsewhere by any chance?
