Almost every battle was in the south. What was the other option for the south. If someone wants to throw down in your living room...you fricking throw down.

It probably had more to do with waking up and looking out your window to see a bunch of dudes who arent from your home marching across your land. There is a reason the south called it the war of northern aggression. Thats what they viewed it as. Do a little research. Maybe you think you know what the generals and politicians were after...but you are way off when it comes to the intentions of the soldiers

Since when do the intentions of soldiers matter? This is the most retarded shite I may have ever read on TD

The south started the war when the seceded, you are making it seem as though the war started when the north invaded the south. The south also fired the first shots at fort Sumter. Why did the south split into a separate country?

Writing thank you notes exclusively in cursive has been an important part of my professional career and social life. I have never regretted knowing it.

It matters when people are expected to carry the actions of their ancestors. Most peoples ancestors were soldiers. Therefore, their intentions are quite important.

Also the south has no more guilt. More whites died in the Civil War than all the slaves combined over the 400 years of slavery in the US. I think the balance sheet is good.

I was thinking the same thing when I read it "You may know the intentions of the politicians and generals but not the intentions of the soldiers" Soldiers are pawns. their intentions do not matter in a war.

Eh, you do know that slavery existed legally after the civil war in the north, correct?

Also, I wouldn't consider the Catholic league in New Orleans "smaller southern areas".

If that is what matters, then just think of this factoid. African Americans have a great health rate, birth rate, income rate and way of life than Africans who stayed on the continent. While we are made to feel bad about our past, that past made both our people better in the long run.

Sad but true, history hurts sometimes.

Well given that they died defending their perceived right to slavery..

They probably deserved it. Once it's made right via reparations maybe we can all move on from our ancestors mistakes

obvious you did NOT read my posts.

Maryland was given a free ride because if Maryland went to the Confederacy, DC would have been abandoned. Delaware had slavery on the decline. Though slavery was abolished in both of those states right after the war.

Why did South Carolina leave the union?

(the second time, remember they tried to way earlier under Jackson's administration but he wasn't having that, yet Southerner's don't hate him)

Or the fact that America essentially ended the act of slavery voluntarily after it had existed....literally forever.

White dudes catch a lot of shite. But we ended slavery (didnt have to), gave women the right to vote(didnt have to), gave blacks the right to vote (didnt have to). We just sat their and, against our own best interest gave power away.

You can argue it was right...but it definitely wasnt smart.
