I'm for legalizing it FWIW. But the people that say "OH it will improve SO many people's lives. It will save lives!" get on my nerves to no end.

I live 3 miles from a government research center on the damn plant. It's not like they're just growing it to grow it.

You would think with the constant research they would have found most of the positives in the last, oh say, 40 years.

Are you a fricking moron ? Besides the facts that effective pain relievers such as Marinol are on the market, there has been next to no research due to tight restrictions by the government. Go ask to do marijuana research and you'll be laughed at

I don't do any drugs and even I think the marijuana ban is stupid

What do you think funded this study?

Answer: Government money.

Nope. Government conspiracy would cover it up if they did. Government had no hand in this research. 0.

So the government has NOTHING to gain by it being illegal?

The real question is what harm does it do?

No one can really answer that. Its not addictive, its not a carcinogen, it doesn't increase rates of violence with those that use it, etc.

Alcohol is far worse of a drug and everyone looooooves it. And while marijuana isn't a wonder drug that cures everything, it really can help with nausea due to chemo (and hangovers ;) ) and degenerative joint pain. Also REALLY helps reduce seizures for epileptics.

Marijuana isn't a gateway drug because of its side effects. Its a gateway into the illegal trade with drug dealers and shady crowds. Legalize and this ends.

I have never once been stoned and thought, "Man I wish I had some blow right now" or has it made me more aggressive or likely to break laws.

Its the exact opposite. It calms me down and makes me want papa johns. (Peyton Manning, you sly dog you).

But, I agree with you that the benefits of the plant aren't where people should be focusing all of their attention, but moreso on the lack of negative side effects.

Best benefits in my mind are actually insane tax revenue and the huge blow it would deliver to organized crime/drug trafficking. Prohibition is one of the dumbest things ever done in this country from a legislative standpoint, and we liked it so much we repeated it with marijuana.

Marijuana is classified as a schedule 1 narcotic to the federal government. That means they think it is just as dangerous as heroin and MORE dangerous than meth, coke, crack, ketamine, anabolic steroids, benzodiazapines, and pharmaceutical opiates. ALL of which are addictive and have thousands upon thousands of deaths associated with their use

This fricking country is so fricking backwards it pisses me off.

But if you think it is going to cure aids then you have your dreadlocks pulled too tight.

Well yeah, I just see the distinction between THC, the chemical, and weed itself. Obviously smoking weed on its own would be no miracle treatment, though it can increase quality of life for some. But maybe some formulations involving THC could be particularly useful.

None to my knowledge. That's why I think it should be legal.

Has a lot more to gain by making it legal.

Forbes had an article a while back about how it would turn a 50 billion dollar a year spending from enforcement of laws into a 100 billion dollar a year profit from taxes (something along those lines).

Not to mention the money it would save not having to enforce laws and imprison stoners. There was a trustee at the jail I worked in La. that was in there for 10 years because he was caught with Pot a third time. That is so beyond ridiculous it is hard to actually believe it can happen. I don't even smoke, I like to drink and I'll be the first to say drinking is much worse then pot is.

If potheads would stop acting like marijuana is the greatest medicinal discovery since the polio vaccination, I would be fine with it being legal. That is the only side effect that troubles me.

Also, the word potheads is hilariously overused.

Does everyone that enjoys drinking an alcoholic?

I am for the legalization of alcohol because its delicious and fun to drink. That must mean I am an alcoholic.

Agreed. It's funny to me because they use it as it's supposed to be condescending. As if I even smoke weed.
