I think sometimes people forget that just walking out in the roadway doesn’t automatically make a car stop.

I have come through campus quite a few times and people just blindly walk out across the road assuming that since it’s a school that people will stop.

It always amazed me how kids would just cross the street at lsu and expect cars to stop. Frick that. I made damn sure the car was stopping before I crossed, especially in a crosswalk.

We did this. But only in cross walks and only if the oncoming vehicle was an LSU vehicle. Tryna get that tuition paid for.

Joke is on me. Still paying student loans.

The pedestrian was injured on AgCenter Lane near the 4H Mini Barn after stepping out into the path of the vehicle before 8:30 a.m., Ballard said. The pedestrian was not in a crosswalk.

Back in 2006, I saved someone from being hit by a bus on campus. Pedestrian stepped into the same cross walk I was about to enter when I noticed a bus wasn't slowing down for us. I grabbed the student's backpack and pulled them back to the curb just as a bus blew through the crosswalk.

Way to go a-hole you owe that person a $100,000

Sorry but I did not want to see what happens when a 20,000lbs vehicle traveling 20MPH collides with a human being.

Sounds like they've learned their first lesson in college.

Last year two students from physics were hit while in a crosswalk in separate incidents. I've personally come 2 feet from being hit in a crosswalk by some idiot on a cell phone. After breaking in time to save my knee caps and possibly my life, rather than hanging up she kept on chatting.

There was a rumor a couple of years ago that that earned free tuition.

Can't say I didn't think about pulling the trigger on that once or twice.

I don't know exactly what the situation was here in this occurrence and I certainly never want to see someone runover, but I think there needs to be an increase of awareness on the part of drivers and pedestrians in the area. I hear many folks say that pedestrians have the right of way on LSU campus as though it is an absolute. Pedestrians only have the right of way in a crosswalk when they have the pedestrian arrow (where applicable). The University's policy states: "Vehicles are to yield to pedestrians at all intersections and all other designated crosswalks on University streets." State traffic laws make similar assertions. While driving in that area, I've had more than one occurrence of a pedestrian stepping off the curb into the street in front of my car while no where near a crosswalk. Perhaps something like a school zone needs to be instituted on Nicholson during class hours to slow drivers down, and perhaps pedestrians/students need to be advised of what their true right of way is.
