Similar situation happened to me a couple years ago with stubhub.
In 2012 I bought two tickets for the LSU/Mississippi St game. It was less than a week before the game for around $10 a piece in the lower bowl. The next morning I got a call from stubhub saying that the tickets I purchased were no longer available. There were no "comparable tickets" to compensate me.
After staying on the phone with them for some time they offered me tickets in the same section but the price was much higher ($100 total IIRC) but I would have to pay the difference. I said I was not paying that price for that game.

Stubhub eventually caved and gave me the more expensive tickets without charging me the $80 extra. I think they even threw in a $15 gift card or something like that.

I've had literally thousands of transactions through Stubhub as both a buyer and a seller. Their customer service is usually excellent but every once in a while their policies come back to bite them. This is one of those cases.

In my experience, when a seller backs out, Stubhub has almost always come through with equal or in same cases far better tickets for no additional cost. Every once in a while, the sale just gets cancelled.

Jesse claims that the seller gave him the tickets. Not true. As others have stated, the seller simply put the delivery date for the tickets at the latest allowable by Stubhub, usually 2-3 days before the event (I hate this policy BTW). The seller never delivered the tickets to the buyer.

Also Jesse claims that Stubhub gave him the refund in Stubhub credit. Not true. Stubhub refunded the full amount back to his credit card. Jesse had a legitimate beef here and didn't need to embellish the facts.

What gets me angry is that Stubhub passes the bogus excuse given by the seller onto the buyer that the tickets were incorrectly priced when it was over a month after sale. At least be honest with the buyer up front. Awful customer service interactions with the buyer.

Finally, Stubhub is taking a lot of heat (and rightfully so). However, every single other ticket resale site would have done the exact same thing.

I’M SURE OTHERS OUT THERE HAVE SIMILAR STORIES, AND I WANT YOU TO KNOW…YOU’RE NOT ALONE. I HAD THE INCREDIBLE, ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY TO WATCH MY FAVORITE ATHLETE SAY GOODBYE TO THE GAME HE’S MADE SO INCREDIBLY SPECIAL FOR ME – AND ALL LAKERS FANS – FOR 20 HISTORIC SEASONS, AND I’LL NEVER GET TO EXPERIENCE THAT, AN EVENT I PAID FOR WITH MY OWN, HARD-EARNED MONEY, BECAUSE STUBHUB IS AN ABSOLUTE JOKE OF A COMPANY. ALL I’M ASKING IS THAT IF THIS STORY RESONATES WITH YOU, PLEASE SHARE IT WITH FRIENDS. THIS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. AND, KOBE: I’LL BE SITTING ON MY COUCH, SHOUTING LOUDLY, WEARING A #24 JERSEY OVER A #8 JERSEY, WHILE SOFTLY DABBING MY TEARS WITH A #33 LOWER MERION JERSEY. IT’S BEEN A PLEASURE, MY FRIEND. YOU’RE THE MAN.

Nice work, unknownknight.

Went to Sugarbowl a few years ago when Michigan beat VT. Tickets were fake. Called stubhub, they got us another set of tickets (Probably would not been able to had the game been big) and a credit.

It sounds like the seller raised a huge stink with StubHub when he found out about the price change.

It sucks, but unless he seller uploads the tickets for instant download, they still control them. Even though he already bought them, did this guy really think the seller would let his tickets go for that price?

I've only had really good experiences with stubhub. When I bought tickets to the game at Mississippi State this season they gave me free UPS next day air (even though I didn't need it. It was more than a week before the game) because the seller was dicking around and took a long time to ship the tickets.

Their customer service is pretty good.

Will continue to use stubhub.

StubHub should change their policy to 20% of the current market value, not original sales value. That would prevent this problem.

I think Stubhub owes Jesse the tickets or the $6k plus of the current cost.

Nope. Just helping to point out some of the facts like several others have in this thread. Like I said, Stubhub needs to tighten up their policies that currently allow some sellers to game the market like this.
