LOL, no ponds around here ! Uptown NOLA ! No airport either. Why wound anyone set off air cannons here, for what reason?

No idea, but I guarantee that's what it is. If it's only at dusk and not directly during the day - that's what it is. Famers around here go dusk to dawn with it. It's the exact boom being described. They'll put multiple out there - sometimes they are not synced so they'll go seconds apart from each other.

Granted, this can be heard for miles too - so it may not be directly in uptown depending on the wind direction and where its carrying it too.

I don't think that's what it is. Have you ever been to New Orleans or Uptown? If that's what it was someone would have figured it out by now.

Yea but I know that boom, I live with it. I haven't read any other logical explanations. These air cannons are legit and carry for miles. So, the source can be somewhere else.

Name somewhere that's close enough to uptown between I10 and the River mostly around Tulane and the Park.

Look, I'm just giving a reasonable explanation. Someone could have caught wind of these air cannons and using them for residential purposes. But all these descriptions lead me to believe that's what it is unless you got something better?

Maybe it's coming from across the river somewhere... I really don't know... I'm going to keep an ear out for it this evening

When's movies were being shot here you could just assume it was just production. Now there is no telling. I'm waiting for Nola.com to do a write up to get some attention.

Thought it was the RR coupling on the river tracks.

How do you "know that boom," you haven't even heard it

You right - keep searching for that "boom" sound. It's probably aliens anyway.

I'm not going to say you're completely wrong but I think you're wrong. I've been hearing them since early December. If someone uptown or even across the river were using them at their house neighbors would have already come forward and we would have an explanation. It's been all over social media and neighborhood message boards as well as Uptownmessagener.com. Something isn't adding up.

So, being completely sincere, what else have you come up with? I'm all ears.

Yep, I'll go with that lol - in all seriousness, not necessarily ponds, but they are used as a deterrent to keep birds away. Like runways and so forth, just saying.

air cannons keeping birds out

Heard those many times, but they don't shake house miles away.

“Our house at Carrollton and Panola Street shook too,” wrote a resident immediately after the Dec. 6 event. “Thought someone ran into our house with a truck. Strange event!”
