Nothing good about that kind of rainfall in such a populated area.

Update #2: Newark Airport #EWR posted 0.50” of rain in just SIX MINUTES from 8:51 to 8:57 PM. Extremely high instantaneous rates with these storms.

Okay, that's pretty terrifying:

This is an unbelievably awful situation. *Since* this flash flood emergency, the @nysmesonet site in Staten Island has recorded 1.6"+ of rain in 15 minutes.
They're up to 5.59" on the event with more coming. #nywx LINK

I never saw one, but that radar isn't on the level of what we have down here in regards to severe weather.

What’s that right over NYC that you posted?

I just did my initial assessment in New Orleans. I’d say it would take around 2-5 weeks to get power back. There’s a lot of down poles. For every 10 poles, I’d say there’s a damaged one that need to be replaced before we can start working on the pole. We have over 50 guys doing assessment and it’s still going to take us over a week to finish the assessment.

I will say one thing, though. If I'm a chaser and/or photographer in the NYC area tonight, I think I would have a hard time not posting up in some parking structure somewhere to try to get a lightning backlit shot of a funnel over the city. If you could make that happen, it would print money.

That's a velocity couplet that's fairly broad. I didn't post a shot of Correlation Coefficient that would show a debris ball.

So, there is a debris ball?

New Rochelle NY just had the rather dubious distinction of hitting short-fused convective warning bingo:

This is as serious a meteorological situation as you’ll ever get, especially given the number of people in harm’s way. LINK

I never saw a Tornado Debris Signature on CC. It had a decent couplet on Velocity, though.
