No the Gulf Stream guides hurricanes parallel to the East coast.
Assuming you're being serious, this makes sense. I should have been more clear about my question - tracks follow along the coast quite often, so is the coast shaped the way it is because of the storms are do the storms follow the track they do because of the coastline itself?
The Gulf Stream makes plenty of sense.

Or maybe storms follow that path because of the shape of the US
Yeah either or was what I was asking.

Cite Soleil is on the other side of Haiti. They will get a lot of rain though.

Some minor changes here and there on the 00z GFS but the result is basically the same as 18z, monster sitting right offshore:

Impressive footage of Matthew from ISS
Thanks for sharing. It is hard to judge the scale in that clip but the size of the storm was larger than I expected.

I guess over billions of years coastal erosion obviously occurs as a result of storms. It also happens just because of tides and waves. I guess is not just one thing to put it in very simple terms.

Those south facing coastal towns are going to get hammered. Most hurricanes run parallel or at a flat angle to the SW coast of Haiti. Matthew is coming in at a right angle from the south. All the water will get pushed straight toward the shoreline.

I've been trying to look up information and can't seem to find much that discusses the reason for the shape of the coastline from FL to the Carolinas. Tropical systems just seem like a nice, tidy answer considering their tracks, but it could be a chicken/egg thing too.
