While what he did was certainly wrong and he should be dismissed it is also easy to sit behind a keyboard and call him a pussy when no one in this thread was standing in his shoes. All claiming they would charge the suspect really don’t know truly if they would.

I know what I would do, because I’ve been in that situation; and I fought WITHOUT a gun.

I've been really pleased with every SRo that i met over the years at my kids' schools in Rapides Parish. So far, no gunfights, but they really interact well with the kids, and provide a positive view of law enforcement.

This guy froze, and now will endure a lifetime of hazing and criticism. I like to think i would have gone in, but you never know until faced with that exact situation, which is why i find the good guy with a gun argument ridiculous.

What a pussy. So probably the one time he ever actually was needed he was too afraid to do anything?

But people on this board want to arm teachers and think they'll do better.

It's literally his job and he trains specifically to do it.

If he failed, why do we expect a teacher with some quick firearms training is going to do better?

We're expecting too much out of the people who already complain that they have the hardest job when they get off a quarter of the year.

You don't know unless you've been in that situation. Anything else is what you expect of yourself.

do you think police are racists and police brutality is a problem?

a teacher died protecting students with his body

yes, i think he could do better than the police officer who was too cowardly to engage a 19 year old with no training

i don't think anyone says we should force teachers to CC if they don't want to

What does this have to do with anything?

That doesn't mean he would've been effective with a gun..

There were like at least 6 threads after the shooting saying we need to arm and train every teacher

This.

But. Cornered and defending yourself is one thing. Running into a building alone to rifle fire is another. None of us KNOW what we’d do. I like to think I do, but.....

No need to be a billy badass. Unless you've been in the scenario, you don't know. That's how these things work. Fight or flight.

I'm not in the arm the teachers camp but I think plenty are capable of doing better. Short of shooting bystanders, I can't think of many scenarios where they could do any worse. Especially considering all the teachers that have performed heroically over the years.

My main concern with arming teachers is that considering the relative rarity of mass school shootings, I wonder if introducing thousands of additional weapons will lead to more incidents than will actually be prevented.

Who will pay for the guns, ammo, training, etc too? It's a dumb proposition.

One thing that should be mentioned in the era where police shoot first and ask questions later.

In the last 5-7-10 years, if you asked a police officer what his or her number one job was, they would say,"To go home at the end of my shift." "Protecting and serving" has fallen to a distant 2nd.

This guy went home at the end of his shift.

I would imagine those willing to take on this task are already CC holders and gun owners.
