I would let the owner know - but also under the guise that maybe he's had another complaint or two and he's able to see a pattern. He may not fire a guy based upon one report, but there may already be others who have said something.

Its your own fault for leaving money out in the open laying around. Hopefully whoever stole it can cash it.
