Unfortunately, the next generation is woefully ill-equipped to inherit the legacy of American exceptionalism, let alone repair it after the damage done before them by the baby boom generation’s fiscal irresponsibility and moral relativism. Millennials appear to be detached from every foundation necessary for self government: personal responsibility, morality and strong families.

thanks boomers

quote:

For example, according to author and columnist Janice Shaw Crouse, a whopping 70 percent of American males between the ages of 20-34 are single and living in a state of “perpetual adolescence.” These are obviously prime reproductive years and most young men appear to be sitting them out, or at the very least they’re inseminating and then splitting as evidenced by an out-of-wedlock birth rate that has soared to 41 percent of all childbirths, according to the CDC. Furthermore, U.S. census data points out that almost one-third of millennials are still living at home with either mom and/or dad.

so some of us don't want to get married and have kids because we enjoy our own lives and also saw the previous generation drive divorce rates over 50%

quote:

Yet as if this profile wasn’t already pessimistic enough, we haven’t even come to the most troubling part. Our millennials are so spiritually and morally lost that even if they wanted to correct their shortcomings, their generation lacks the wherewithal to do so. According to a leading religious trend researcher named George Barna, only two in 10 Millennials believes going to church is important and almost 60 percent of millennials who grew up going to church have dropped out. More than half of millennials haven’t been to church at all for any reason in at least six months.

Can you really blame young people for not getting married when most of their parents are divorced?

I knew, somehow, it wouldn't be your fault.

Not getting married is someone's "fault"

I love when people make some grossly broad generalizations about groups of millions of people, throw together some line graphs and call it a study.

It's obviously the boomer's fault for raising so many sluts.

I like how Deace (and the author he cites) equates not getting married to perpetual adolescence. It's the opposite premise of Idiocracy, which is actually more logical than Deace's argument.

FWIW, there was a Reddit thread over the weekend addressing Redditors from Africa and Asia. It asked what do you find most odd about Western culture.

The most upvoted response was that people here look at living with your parents in a negative light.

Don't get me wrong.. I'd never want to live with my parents right now either. But plenty of other countries' children stay with their parents until marriage.. even if that isn't until their late 20s-early 30s.

It's not about "fault."

Are you denying the impact of their parents trashing it up? It's not like a child's parents not being together is some insignificant anecdote.

Then why has the destruction of the lower-class family been such a "nothing to see here" event?

Which makes absolute sense. To deny that is insane

Because the lower class, unskilled worker demographic needs to be wiped out. Otherwise, society will forever be dragged down by them.
