The only pesticide that will keep snakes, mice, and small rodents away from your house is Lorsban. It basically took the place of Timic after it was outlawed but you have to have an applicators license to buy it.
If OP knows a farmer he will have the license and can buy it. Spray it around the perimeter of your house and anywhere you desire to keep unwanted pests away. It's so potent that no critter will go near it. Plus you will have no type of bugs for weeks
Edit if you do this wear a mask and gloves. Ingesting Lorsban can make you very ill or kill you. If you have outdoor pets don't use it
