The Wilmington couple paid $325,000 for Delaware license plate number 14 during the Emmert Auction Associates estate sale at the Rehoboth Beach firehouse Sunday afternoon. Yet while this may seem strange to outsiders, it made perfect sense to those living in Delaware, where low license plate numbers are viewed as valuable assets that can be transferred across generations.

The man who paid $325,000 for the number 14 tag Sunday told NBC10 he actually thought the price was a steal. He plans on placing it on his wife’s BMW SUV.

Only nine years ago, a Wilmington developer paid $675,000 for Delaware license plate number 6. Some Delaware residents believe the low license plate numbers are good investments that pay off if you keep the tag number long enough.

I'll just steal it off the BMW when the wife goes to the market. No grocery store ever has parking lot cameras.

GUARANTEED both the $325K purchaser and the $600K purchaser are bleeding heart liberals who want to lecture me on how I should spend my money on SJW causes.

... sorta like Gore lecturing me on GW while flying on his private jet to one of his many homes.

I know, I know. Political board.

It seems that really big houses in private neighborhoods often have a one or two digit address,

Usually because they are relatively new roads that are not very long, and if you're not squeezing 10+ houses in one block, there is no need for 3 digit addresses.

So the license plate is worth more than the vehicle? This is no different than the guy who puts $3,000 rims on a $1200 car.

Yes, it I common practice to spend $$$$ on license plates in the UAE. I know someone that spent seven figures on his plate..: his date of birth: 1967.

Actually, this is not a sign of America going down the shitter. This is an example of American prosperity. When you can pay over a quarter of a million dollars for a piece of plastic that goes on your car then that means America is doing well. Or at least that idiot is.

My mom and her side of the family all have plates with single or two digits and have been offered decent money for them, but nowhere near that.

its not always a good thing. They usually have to contest some parking tickets every so often though

Coincidentally, you can pick up the 69 license plate for a mere $69,000.
