It's not about history or racism or slavery.
It's about power and facism.
Mitch just said in his press conference only the statues are coming down including Lee. Only the statues.
So he's just going to leave these pedestals and shite all over the city.
No thought or care about how they look or the damage he caused or the way he makes these places look like blighted shite.
The citizens and the idea of democracy just got Bitch slapped by facism. Mitch unilaterally decided to use public funds to vandalize private property and steal private art work off of private property that was the current subject of both litigation and legislation.
Let that sink in. Let that gravity of Mitch's actions sink in

Couldn't have said it better myself. My life hasn't changed one bit since those statues came down.
And it wouldn't have changed one bit if they remained standing.
Glad you see the point, the statues were a non-issue in everyday life until the a-hole tried to score political points with his lies.

getting their panties in a wad about a statue of a person that really had no significance in their GRANDPARENTS lifetime much less their own

When is someone going to take a sledge to Moonwalk?
Posted on 5/17/17 at 9:39 pm to vl100butch

This is just how Communism happens. All of a sudden the population becomes powerless... imagine what they got lined up next as we all sit here with our jaws on the ground. Then after that no one will even pay attention to the changes
Why hasn't Mitch Landrieu been arrested for this yet?
He should be in jail.

So...citizenry should take up arms?

Not only that, but the majority has to suffer for the bitching of the few. Politics really pisses me off.
Scooba, I think this is what the majority wants. They elected Mitch and he is doing all this on their behalf. At least the majority of Orleans Parish. If you are not a resident you don't have a say in what they do with city property.
Breesus, How is it private property and private art work? Am I missing something here?

And just WHO will arrest him? He is contravening judges, he's giving orders to NOPD & NOFD. City Park OWNS Beauregard and they just sat there and allowed it without a peep.
Posted on 5/17/17 at 9:58 pm to RedPop4
There aren't any Feds that can arrest him?
He's defaced monuments on the NHR, and commandeered them.
He's selling them like they're personal property.
Why the frick isn't he in jail right this minute?

Last night would've been the night to do it. Almost 1/3 of the beat cops in NOLA were over at City Park. Who would've stopped it from happening?

All that aside, he's in contempt of the Fifth Circuit ruling that allowed him to do this. He didn't do it according to the terms set.

Is he in contempt?
Shouldn't he be detained and charged?

I saw a metric frick-ton of OSHA violations out there last night, as well. Where were they in all of this?
Everybody seems to be looking the other way. I don't know if there are payoffs involved or what. Being NOLA, it wouldn't surprise me.
I hate to say it, but it looks like somebody's gonna have to get hurt removing these things before anybody takes notice.
Posted on 5/17/17 at 10:17 pm to Godfather1
There was a comment about OSHA not being "on call" to stop violations, and that they're not going to just show up.
That pissed me off, too. You're right. Everyone is looking away.
Why in the hell is this being allowed to happen? Landrieu has to be arrested. This is tyranny.

I agree with everything- people aren't offended until they were told to be. Etc
