I actually think there are harder schools to get into than Princeton. Great school, but i knew at least one guy who got a little attention from them and he was fuc**ng retarded. Happened to have family in jersey, so he got attention. That should not be enough to get you into a top 3 school

If by same shite, you mean they also study 'science,' 'English,' 'history,' etc., than you would be right. It ends there. Put the average state school student up against the average Harvard student and it wouldn't even be close in terms of intellect.

I'll put the University of Michigan next to any Ivy League University.

It's really all about what you put into it, and where you want to take it. Plain and simple. I've done just fine with my modest little LSU degree, more than a shite load of Ivy leaguers, and in turn there's been a lot of them that have blown me out of the water monetarily, It's all about self actualization I suppose.

You can walk out of an ivy with a degree in French film and literature and walk directly into a finance position on Wall Street starting at 200k.

There is a way of thinking and network of connections that cannot be matched by many state schools (Michigan, California, Massachusetts and Washington might be up there).

yep, and will be canned shortly thereafter, it might get you in the door, but after that you've gotta perform

Maybe that was a little sweeping, but of the kids I knew who went to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, most of them were light years ahead of the rest of their peers. Some incredibly brilliant people. The rest were excellent students but not on that level.

Actually from my experiences, the Yale kids I've known were more likely to get there from connections, family tradition, good grades, etc as opposed to being just a stellar intellect. Much more so than Harvard or Princeton kids.

The rest of the Ivy League contains many, many very intelligent people, but there are definitely plenty of students out there who are comparable to a Dartmouth or Cornell or Penn level of competence but just didn't end up there.

Having been in the real world for several years now, I can tell you that where you went to college doesn't really mean anything after you've been working for a while. It's all about the individual.

No you cant. The average starting salary out of Harvard is 60k. Ivy league doesn't mean 200k. Youve got a better shot of it than say LSU, but not guaranteed.

I made more than that out of LSU. In 5 years in making more than double. I work with grads from highly rated schools. Its an easier road for them, but i feel like i can hold my own.

I absolutely think someone from LSU could prove just as competent as an Ivy League grad. There were students at LSU law from Ivy league schools who were by no means at the top of their class (although I also knew a few really, really sharp ones).

I do find it funny all the people here making it sound like all the kids in the Ivy League just schmoozed their way in there and/or couldn't cut it in the real world.

there's no question that they ended up there because they're not dumbasses, there are just so many extenuating circumstances as to why they went to "lesser" schools, or maybe not at all, I know a machinist that had to drop out of MIT because he ran out of money, better than a 3.5 as a MechE, getting in, or out, those schools are just a notch on the resume, once you enter the workplace you have to perform, and honestly that's where some of the "lesser" people shine
