Because it’s not just for Slidell. If it passes, then a casino can build in any part of St Tammany parish. Meaning they are eyeing the Mandeville lakefront.

I don't feel strongly one way or the other but this is misinformation directly from the opposition. It's classic misdirection in an attempt to "scare" voters with hypotheticals that are not remotely realistic--"don't vote for one because there might be two."
The people pushing this narrative would rather the money stay in offering plates or in Mississippi. That should be telling.
And before someone tells their fellow citizen what they can and can't do, they at least owe them an honest conversation about the pros and cons of proposition. I understand some social/religious reservations, but Slidell doesn't get many opportunities like this.
There are obviously competing interests on both sides that are irrespective of what's "good" for St. Tammany but this theoretical nonsense doesn't further any legitimate discussion.

How do you stop it?
You make compromises. For instance, you commute for an hour instead of 20 minutes. Or, to use your example, instead of Aspen, you move to Cooke City, Montana, whose remoteness deters a lot of people from living there. Like I said, it's hard, but not impossible.

You severely underestimate the regulatory side and what it takes to put a casino anywhere in Louisiana, among other things.
Gaming has been legal for decades in Louisiana--including parishes that have attractive real estate. In your memory, how many casinos have been developed on premium real estate, much less against the will of the locale?
Of course there are some big money interests that would love to put a casino on the Mandeville lakefront. I'd also like to win the lottery and retire. Just because you can theorize in it your head doesn't make it realistic or actually relevant to whether St. Tammany should vote yes or no.

Gotta give it to the churches and Mississippi casinos; their tactics are working with some. ?
Again, there's plenty of legitimate arguments to make in opposition and the same for voting yes--but Mandeville lakefront fear/hysteria isn't one of them.
It will be interesting to see the impact of the SoS pushing back elections because of Hurricane Ida. At this point, it looks like it was premature. I know the "No" people are praying for a low turnout--only want some voices heard.

I wouldn't want it in my town, but st tammany parish needs the tax dollars really bad. so frick slidell.

Of course we do. The current infrastructure cannot handle the rapid growth. Widening I12 isn’t gonna fix all the traffic issues. Not to mention the condition and neglect the current roads have.
Have to think long term here. It sucks for Slidell though.

One story projected the parish gaining 9 million per year from this casino. Hoe much of that will be spent on issues caused by the casino?

As great as st Tammany is, it’s still in Louisiana. We will vote democrat or selfishly and put ourselves in a shithole.
