Just came back from an errand. I was behind 2-3 busses. Dunno.

They want more money to maintain their busses. St Tammany uses own operators.
Not sure of the veracity of this, but heard they haven't had an operational raise since 1986. Would be nice if someone can confirm.
While everyone is feeling a squeeze right now, the board should rectify this besides a 5-month stop gap.

I want to know why in the hell are kids still required to wear masks on the bus but no where else. Stupid!
Federal executive order requiring masks on public transport.

I would be more sympathetic to their cause if they had given some kind of notice beforehand instead of quitting in the middle of the day leaving kids with no way to get home.
So is this a systemic issue or just one school or a few schools?
I know the bus drivers are locked in a pay issue right now.
Doesn't seem like a strike but maybe a few drivers decided to "sick out" this afternoon?
If St. Tammany is like anywhere else... there are barely enough drivers to meet demand when everyone is healthy. If 15 or 20 drivers decide to take the afternoon off... it can very quickly cause an issue.

If they havent had a raise since 1986 Id say they gave you plenty notice.

I would have more respect for them if it was about the vaccine mandate and not more of my Tax Money.

I would hope they would at least be concerned with the kids.

Jabbia has to go, along with the entire school board.
I’m seriously considering running. I have no experience at “school boarding” or in education, but that’s probably what is needed.
In my few attempted contacts with the school board, they’ve either completely ignored a request or shunned responsibility. Tired of my kids bearing the brunt. They all need to get kicked out.

I saw someone post that 63 drivers called in sick this afternoon.

There's no chance they have 63 subs. Especially since a lot of St Tammany is owner operator.
So some kids will get home today no issue. Not all.

Is one of the issues Billy Graham's spitoon privileges?

Seems like there would be a lot of gripes and rumors about workplace issues leading up to a strike. Has that been happening in St. Tammany?

My kid goes to private school, but rides St Tammany bus.
Tell me more about how this works.

I dont really know the specifics re: who pays. I know I don’t pay extra for bus service at school.
Our school starts and ends earlier than public. The busses pick up our kids, then go to the public schools to get kids.

This is how it was in Jefferson Parish when I was a kid. The Catholic elementary I went to, the busses were parish public school busses.
I think it has to do with the fact that state money can be spent on bus for private school kids because the money isn't going to the school. Same as with textbooks.
