St. George vote appears inevitable at this point....and I think that if it comes to a vote, it will pass pretty easily.

Prepare yourselves.

The properties being annexed have minimal residents but plenty dirt and grass and no property tax revenues.
The Mall of Louisiana properties pay no property tax? Costco and Celtic Studios pay no property tax?

Link?

I hate to break it to you guys, but SG organizers don't really want it on the Dec ballot. Jindal would be upset.

They'll shoot for spring. Don't get me wrong, they'll say they want it on the Dec ballot but it won't happen.

St. George supporters celebrated a major victory Sunday evening when they announced that enough signatures have been collected to put the proposal to create their own city in the southern part of the parish to a vote of the people.

It's not gonna count as the annexation boundaries have changed.

We will see. If that was that easy every time any petition for a vote was in the works opponents could just annex a single small lot of land and thus change the boundaries of the original petition and force the whole process to be redone. Of course that isn't right and not how the system shoul work.

Minimal property taxes! Celtic is in a TIF and was given ad valorem tax incentives and will pay no taxes to City/Parish government. What about the raw land south of the City. $50 a year taxes on hundreds of acres? Bad decision by this administration!

As if paying 30% to 35% of their production costs isn't enough. Jesus.

They aren't, Costco is and a portion of the Celtic property that was transferred over in a land swap. And even if their primary land was it wouldn't benefit them.

Celtic doesn't pay the production costs that can receive the state tax benefits.

Proverbial "their." A reference to anything being produced at Celtic. Not meant to hijack. I just found the information to be striking.

Who will be vying for the mayor of St George after passage?

I think the interim mayor will be appointed by the governor right?

I'm pretty sure my signature will be tossed. I realized a few weeks ago live one street out side the proposed border line in 70810 but they let me sign anyway last year. Hopefully this was not the case for too many signatures. It should go to a vote.

Because the owners of that land asked to be annexed? And that land will never be developed commercially, right?

You are 0 for 3 this morning.

$50 dollars a year in property taxes! Bad decision! How much does Celtic pay in sales taxes to the City/Parish Government? Minimal since it goes to the TIF district!

When the St. George incorporation is implemented I understand that you want the name of Baton Rouge changed to South Detroit!
