i'm a transplant down here and i dont trust anything coming out of the port right now. at all. And quite frankly, i don't blame anyone for not trusting them because the parish has been sold out so many times by the same people
I get it.
That's the hell of this. I think IF this is planned and run properly (a big IF of course) it could be great for the community.
But because no one trusts / believes the port right now... we never even get to the point of discussing the particulars.
It's just "no port, hell no, never".

One of my neighbors is a port atty. Nice enough guy. Transplant, not saying that in a bad way. Just doesn't seem to understand it isn't NYC/NJ people he is dealing with.
I kind of offered that maybe he should maybe do some sort of boil or dinner. Maybe buy some poboys at Rocky's or something to talk.
Hell, they had to have a big release last week because cranes were coming up the river and didn't want to make anyone nervous.

That’s what I was thinking. Just build it across the River a flip them the bird
That's the funny part. The locals here are the biggest proponents of the Plaquemines proposal.

First the casino now this. Do the idiots in the NOLA area not like jobs?

arent they supposed to build a school where the kmart used to be? if that's still the case, do they want all that traffic going by the school (if it happens)?
it feels like they didn't think this through and were caught totally off guard by the push back.

Oh yeah, just get them dummies in “da parish” some Veal parmesan and macaroni and you’ll gain their trust.

The St. Bernard Christian School is going there... in fact... after plenty of delays... they have erected the fencing and look like hey are about to start site prep.
Not sure really though if the school and the port would impact each other. The school is probably about the same distance off Judge Perez, that Trist Middle is off of St. Bernard Highway, and Trist has a few houses between them and St. Bernard Highway.

I'm not completely certain they understand the extent of the push back. Even now.

Well hopefully the people of St Bernard can have a voice in it and get to vote like Slidell did with the casino. That way you outsiders who keep saying “we need more ports” don’t have a say.
Fair enough.

It takes more than that, but the point (I think) is that the port needs to practice some good ole down home talking and electioneering.
There are two ways to do this. The port can try to win over local opinion, or they can say F it we don't need y'all and do what they want.
The port right now is SAYING the first thing, but they are ACTING the second way. And I can't tell yet if that's by design or just a gross miscalculation.

Yeah, I hope what I said doesn't come off a "pander to them"
Go and talk to the people. Get on their level. Shake a baby and kiss a hand. Look them in the eye and tell them what you are going to do. And be there if it doesn't happen like you say.
Speaking from an office in NOLA ain't the way.

Who owns the rail where this terminal will be located. If it’s not bnsf I have an idea on who’s backing these litigations.

Depending on Hurricanes, there may not be a St Bernard Parish by 2041.
