So you can’t cite a singe article?

All you have is some "expert" saying to do it and providing no actual data as to why. My post carries as much weight.

No fricking chance is a cabinet open to the room for any significant amount of time going to have a 12 degree difference in temperature from the air right next to it. That doesn't pass the smell test at all.

I’m enjoying this thread, so I decided to participate. It’s 69° in the house. My under sink cabinet that borders the exterior wall is legit reading 20 degrees colder than rest of the house.

Keep crawfishing buddy. It’s much more entertaining than you directly admitting you might be wrong.

i'm still failing to see the huge difference of under sink temps to how it affects where the sink lines actually freeze at.

i think people are bringing old time techniques in older homes to new age homes. i worry about most of my lines freezing in attic where they lay on top of insulation and get run down walls.

I always thought you were just supposed to drip the faucet that's the furthest away from where the water line enters your house?

Not always. Look at where the pipe runs.

My water comes in on the south side of my house runs in the attic to the north side of my house down to my water heater, then back to the south side all the way to where it enters by the bathroom. So if I run the bathroom hot it keeps the entire header moving.

Unfortunately I have a frozen line to my toilet in the master. I have a soffit vent that runs the length of my house and I think there is a 90 on the exterior wall that is completely exposed in the attic. Going to have to do some exploring to get to it.

I’m not trying to scam you. It’s just hovering in the cabinet and not touching anything.

Look, I’m not advocating for cabinet doors one way or the other, but I know there’s a huge difference when I grab a dishwashing pod or something underneath. It feels legit cold. This proves the difference.

Nevertheless…

It’s reading 52° now. I can’t recreate 49° because the cabinet door has been open too long, which I guess was the point of the discussion anyway.

I can't find a 20 degree drop in my house anywhere. Not without going out to the garage anyway. Your measurement is interesting, and I appreciate you taking the time to post both of them.

You probably have a newer house with different insulation. Yours may be on a slab rather than crawl space or pier.

Also said the ice cold wind is what you are protecting the faucets outside against.

So do we leave water running during the day since temps will stay below freezing?
It will be sunny so no need to. Temperature is taken in the shade. With the sun it will be above freezing on surfaces
