potential risk > potential reward in my situation

no reason for me to take that risk when it isn't necessary

there isn't enough crime here to warrant the risk of carrying a weapon

Assuming that you don't live in a ghetto or the Wild Wild West, why do you need to carry a gun on your person daily? What are you afraid of?

San Bernardino Shooting

Grand Theater Movie Shooting, Lafayette

Neither of these places are in the ghetto nor the WWW. Bad people do bad things to good people for no reason at all on a regular basis. Get your fricking head out of the sand you commie bastard.

Lots of after hour calls in an area fairly safe in the daytime but pretty rough at night. I carry a Kimber .45 when I go back in at night.

Being in a "low crime" area is no guarantee. A prime example of this is a very upscale suburb of B'ham named Trussville. It's pretty much the poster child of upscale and affluence. There's a nice shopping center right on the edge of town there named The Pinnacle. I have a friend on the B'ham PD who's informed me that the number of robberies and carjackings at that place is growing considerably over the last few years.

What do you consider the risk to be?

There's a ton of risk associated with carrying a loaded weapon.

I've been hunting and target shooting all my life so I respect that.

Why take risks that aren't necessary?

Me and 300+ million Americans that don't carry a gun around are all naive. You and your .000001% are the only ones that know what's up.

Did you use a wet wipe on those numbers that you pulled out of your arse before you posted them?

So you should have the knowledge to handle a firearm safely.

That's the thing though. How will you know before hand when it's necessary? My motto has always been "I'd rather have a pistol on me and not need it than need it and not have it".

Gold dots and HST for me.

These are your premier choices - in 124 grain (although some folks dig the 147s for recoil management) - but they are difficult to find and pricey (have been for months.)

Colt Mustang Pocketlite .380. Fits perfectly in the front or back pocket of my jeans. I have a leather holster for it to break up the pattern from public view.

Especially since so many states require ZERO training to get the permit.

Ideally, you should have progressed through several steps to avoid confrontation before the weapon is even produced, assuming that's possible, including walking away, putting something, like a car, between you and the aggressor, warning them that you are armed and will shoot, drawing the weapon and targeting them, etc., etc. Biggest problem is that even the most trained people have trouble in these moments. Adrenaline is a helluva drug.

I don't carry mine as a day-to-day thing, but when I do have it on me, I never see it as anything but an absolute last resort.
