For you OTers who use, or know people who do, walk me through how you/they got started. I recognize that once you're on the stuff, it's hard to get off, but I have a hard time comprehending the thought process that leads you to, "yeah, I'm going to snort this Oxy the first time. What could go wrong?"

Lack of God in their life so they have this empty void that they can't really describe other than to say that something is missing.

That's amateur, brah. All drugs are better as suppositories.

Usually they're prescribed by a doctor, and you build up a tolerance and have to keep taking more or find ways to get what you have to make more of an effect.

They used to hand out hydrocodone to people with cold's or the flu until pretty recently. No one really understood the ramifications and then once they stopped giving them out like candy it led to a full scale heroin epidemic in the country.

Sure, and point taken, but alcohol in moderation isn't going to kill you or even have any negative effects for the vast majority of people. Nor will the occasional overuse. Drink too much alcohol, feel like shite the next day, back to normal Monday morning. Not so much with hard drugs.

Not everyone gets addicted. It's a personality trait, really. I used to think I had it, but I have a will power that allows me to take a drug or drink and not have an urge to try it again.

If I want to stop something, I can do it.

The exact same thing can be said about any drug. You have users that dabble, have fun and still succeed in life and druggies.

Just like social drinkers and fricking drunks.

I used to get bronchitis about twice a year. That was good for 3 or 4 bottles of tussionex. That stuff was awesome. I just took what they said to take, and it was some good stuff. Never did enough to actually get high. But, I can easily see how people could get addicted. But, from what I've heard, the "next" high is NEVER as good as the first one. And they are chasing that first "high". That goes for people that are actually trying to get high, not for people that simply build up tolerance to the pain controlling aspects of it.

That's not true. Sure one's personality might lead to a predisposition to addiction, but a physical addiction is simply that and not just some mental habit. Your body is addicted, not your mind.

And that's not a blanket statement for all drugs because they all act differently, but physical addiction is a real thing that when someone takes enough it doesn't matter who you are - you become addicted. But like I said not all drugs lead to a physical addiction, some lead to a mental one, and others both.

Not true. I stuck a weed bud up my arse one time and nothing happened. After it came back out I tried to smoke it, but it just tasted like shite.

Oxy in moderation isnt going to kill you either. Problem is, us addicts/alcoholic dont have a "moderation" setting in us
