re: Spinoff: Is anyone here still opposed to marijuana legalization and if so why?

You gotta be shitting me. I mean we all know it happens, but there's a Senator actually arguing in opposition on the floor based on the fact that an election is coming up, and he's worried about optics.
Claitor tried to drop in a poison pill amendment removing the "recommendation" language, and the amendment failed.

The bill passes the Senate 19-16.

Does this bill still have the 10 dispensary limit in it?

Yes - and also only 1 sanctioned grow site.

Colorado is making bank and having to deal with less bullshite litigation and incarceration. Seems to be a nifty idea.

This state...
They aren't even trying to hide it these days.

Right - it's corrupt from the jump. Someone at the capital will be making bank on this.

Did it pass?
Thought I read that it needed 20 votes to pass.

Still not as retarded as Texas' new law, which requires a fricking neurologist to prescribe--not recommend, but prescribe--non THC only in very limited cases and only when all other treatments have failed.

So basically legislators telling physicians how, when, where to prescribe? Sounds like a good plan.
This same group of winners will tell you obamacare is a government takeover of healthcare and the government should never get between a doctor and patient.

If anyone thinks LA politics isn't still a clown show, find the recording of today's session and take in the opposition arguments. They blue hairs were characterizing this as full blown legalization, and that the world was ending if this passed. It was pretty clear who is on the sheriff's association payroll. I have a feeling there's going to be a great effort made to kill it in the House.

This is what happens when we elect people who believe that man coexisted with dinosaurs to make our laws

You're correct actually. It's up for reconsideration tomorrow. Ironically on 4/20.

While I agree that a lot of law enforcement view it just from a money angle, even worse are the true believers, the ones whose kids be been polluted by decades of war on drugs propaganda and refuse to alter their beliefs no matter what. These are the fricks who refuse to distinguish between pot and heroin and who will always argue that pot use is a gateway.

I never opposed it and I don't understand how anyone can oppose of it. Its as simple as.. if alcohol is legal there is no reason for marijuana to be illegal. And a state like Louisiana, could really use the tax dollars that legalizing marijuana would bring in.

I found it particularly ironic that one senator stood up and said something to the effect of "And what about next year? For these marijuana people, it's never enough. They're going to want more and more..." This in a year when this legislative body voted in some of the highest average taxes in the country, and Edwards has already stated he wants more in next year's budget.

Marijuana use just leads to the further dumbification of America, in my opinion. Drugs are for weak-minded followers, anyway. Must suck to need drugs to make one's life better.
