How can you be an engineer if you don't even hold and engineering degree?

I did an undergrad in physics and a MS in EE at LSU. I do VERY complex engineering analyses, mostly in the field of fracture mechanics, for a well respected engineering group. I report to the director who holds PE licenses in every state we do business, and he ultimately reviews and stamps every report. I got the job by reviewing his work for the agency he was submitting it to, and I was personally recruited by him to perform the analyses...IDK, I work as an engineer (mechanical instead of electrical).

If I'm not mistaken, "professional schools" are reserved for post-graduate education.

Most professional schools are graduate level, but engineering is typically considered an undergrad professional school.

and that is acceptable in some states to take the PE exam.

I'm looking at my actual EI license right now. Right under the state of LA foil, it says "License Number xxxxx"

Mine says the same thing. Just checked.

But I think that's just the way the form was written because Chapter 9 of the LAPELS Rules
States

quote:

§901. Engineer Intern Certification
A. The requirements for certification as an engineer intern under the several alternatives provided in the licensure
law are as follows.

I don't think it really matters as every person that works in engineering with an EIT is referred to as an engineer anyway.

You shitting me...I was under the assumption that the lack of ABET degree, the LSU grad school doesn't hold that cert, prevented me from taking the PE...I'll research it in the states we work.

Thanks.

Yes, but then you have to work for 4 years under a PE and pass the exam to be granted a license as a PE.

There are some people on here that believe the only professional people are Doctors and Lawyers? WTF?

Not sure why this bothers you. Who cares what other people think about a profession? Do you demand people call you a professional? Is that something you need?

Some guys around here get really upset if you do

I think it is funny when the CMs would say they were engineers cause the graduated from the Engineering college. And that they will be PEs when they get that title "Project Engineer"

I'm just a working schlep. Actually this is the first time in my career to work for a PE...I had to quit my cushy cubicle job and work on the road to do it, but it's been pretty good. That was my mid-life crisis. 15 years in a cube, turned 40...I sought out this guy who had offered me a job multiple times and now I work on the road. It's been hard and I've worked my arse off the last 18 months, but I hope it pays off one day.

I try to spend as much time out of the office as in the office. Except when it's below 50 or over 90.

Perhaps... but not in Louisiana.
