Spin off - most impressive thing you watched your dad do

I was too young to realize just how much of a bad arse move this was but our house foundation was sinking and my dad decided to tackle to job of fixing it by himself.
He broke up the sidewalk on that corner of our house by hand, dug down in that north Louisiana gumbo mud at least 5-6 feet, jammed 2 massive screw looking jack devices under the foundation, filled the dirt back in and then he and my grandad mixed up concrete and repoured that entire section of sidewalk.
In the middle of a Louisiana summer.
We had no money so I'm guessing even purchasing the 2 jacks and concrete was a budget breaker.
I just showed up at the end and scratched my name into the wet concrete with a tree branch.
I'm sure my dad appreciated my contribution to the project.
ETA that was in the mid 1970s. House is still doing fine.

My dad would start drinking at 8 AM and keep going until he fell asleep around 8-9 PM my entire life.
The most impressive thing was how he managed to keep getting beer with no job and no car.
Still managed to live to 70. Not too shabby.

Left my mom.
As a father, I don't understand how one could be such a POS.
It's like stalins murder stats... I'm just impressed.

Getting married 4 times and completely ignoring his kids being shite faced drunk everyday. Still managed to get up every day and run a Scott Case tractor dealership.

Real one walked out, #3 od’d… um, #4 is impressive for actually lasting longer than 3-9yrs unlike the ones before him.
My mother has blessed me with many dads.

This is a Louisiana message board with a good portion of autists who turned to the internet as an escape in our younger years.
Having shitty dads is probably more common than not.

Every single day my boring, dirt poor upbringing with parents who stayed married seems more and more like I won the lottery.

Told a pos Iraqi that if he didn’t shut the f up and sit down, his arse was about to get kicked and thrown off the felucca into the Nile River.
He complied.

Having met your dad IRL this story is even better

When my mother got sick he took care of her for 3 1/2 years, even though he was in his eighties and not in the best of health himself.

It could definitely have been worse.
What some dads do is shitty.
About to embark on fatherhood, I have not one male role model to look up to other than my Father in law. He does well enough, but it isn't the same.
I'll never do that to my child. I don't see how you could.

Not my dad but my uncle, dropped back to back Wood Duck doubles, four ducks with two shots... Never would've believed it if I wasn't there...
Had my dog working overtime...

Build his own inground pool.
He was quoted $80k. Immediately said no thanks.
Rented an excavator and dug the pool out. Framed it out. Poured the walls and bottom. Ordered the custom liner.
Built a 20'x45'x4' deep inground pool with water features for around $25k
