A spin off from the Baton Rouge topic. Every so often I see articles about proposed interstate or loop additions that never come to fruition. Some may actually start, but seem to be at a snails pace. What are some examples?

I’ll throw out the northern loop in Birmingham. They started this years ago and it has basically stopped progress. I don’t live in Birmingham, but my dad does. He lives in Trussville and goes to church in Gardendale. I remember telling him how the loop will shorten his drive time. Of course with the projected completion being in 2047, he will be 105 years old then. What makes this project so bad is the section they are working on will connect minor highways and will be useless when that segment is completed. I don’t know why they didn’t start at one of the interstate connections.

That will get built. Too many people have money in it and the growth in N bama is going to make it necessary

Hasn't Highway 90 from Lafayette to the West Bank of New Orleans been a "future I-49 corridor" for like 15 years now?

Well that's a dumb design. The Eastern portion doesn't even go to I20.

I-14 (yes, named after the 14th amendment because it goes through the heart of the south), will never get finished.

I-20 between Shreveport and Ruston has been under construction at some area for 35 years.

Since you posted the map, I’ll point out that the piece under construction connects Hwy 79 and 75.

Also, the proposed map doesn’t show Interstate 22 that took forever, but was completed from Birmingham to Memphis.

Finishing I-26 to interstate grade north of Asheville. It’s one of those things where the road is good enough and basically interstate lacking wide shoulders so there’s no point in wasting money on it.

They’re about to start work on fixing I-26 in town. But they’ve been putting off the work north of the city for 20 years.

85 needs to continue from Montgomery to Meridian. Also, 565 in Huntsville needs to continue to 59 and 75.

I-7 splitting from I-5 @ Wheeler in he south through Bakersfield, Fresno, Stockton, Sac, Chico, and connecting with the 5 @ Redding.

The Farm to Market corridor. 450 miles through the middle of one of the most productive and fertile bread baskets in the world. Going North to South through 3 different growing climates.

Try probably 60 years on future I49/US90.

US 90 was originally 2 lanes and construction started in the 60s or 70s to widen it to 4 lanes.

That part was done by 1999/2000 and the rest has been a work in progress to get it to interstate grade.

90 between Morgan City and Raceland is already at interstate standards. Also some sections between Laffy and Patterson also meet the criteria.

Not an interstate but Hwy 49 between Jackson and Richland has been under construction for as long as I have been alive. And doesn’t appear any closer to being finished.

Maybe a current Shreveport resident can answer, has there been any update in connecting I-49 from
I-20 to 220?
