Ah I missed this. Yeah you are probably fine. Just pay the ticket (probably around $200) and ask if there is a way to keep it off your record.

In EBR they will make you do an online course and you avoid it going on your record and screwing up your insurance rates. No idea about Jefferson.

If this is your first in a while, you will probably have to take one of those online classes to get it off your record (and pay the fees associated with that). If you're a multiple offender, go to court and hopefully the cop doesn't show up. If he does, ask the DA how to get it off your record. They will likely give you a sheet of paper of how to sign up for the class to get it off your record.

69 in a 35 cost me $250 in St.Tammany Parish

It was on 190 during construction (no workers present) so that's why the speed limit was so low. Told me he would have taken me to jail if it was any other 35mph zone in the parish other than 190 during construction.

IDK. I've been in situations where the traffic moves 10-15 over the limit. A trooper really just has to pick a couple of cars out and pull them over to meet their quota.

28 seems excessive though. Where in Jefferson was this?

I am guessing this was on Earheart Expressway, which is essentially a three lane interstate with a 50 mph speed limit. Which is absolutely insane, unreasonable, and unwarranted.

Not surprisingly, State Police feast there.

Go to your trial date and ask the prosecutor to plead under Article 894 so it won't get reported to your insurance.

They probably won't dismiss or reduce to a non-moving at 28 over.

You need 30 over or double the limit for reckless op in Louisiana. I got stopped doing 75 in a 50 in college and a friend got hit with 102 in a 75. Mine was a fine and defensive driving course and my buddy got dropped to no gas cap and a fine.

EDIT: This was the law group I used. It was part of Babcock Partners at the time but looks like it was spun off.

Yeah that's where I thought. If so, the OP's story probably checks out to some extent. Traffic does move much faster than 50 mph there.

Have you ever driven Earheart Expressway? It should be a 70 mph zone. 70-80 is a safe and comfortable speed on that road. 1-10 has 2 lanes for the most part and is 70. Earheart has three lanes and is 50. It's bullshite of the highest order.

That’s really the most important part of driving.

This was on Earhart, I was definitely moving at the pace of other vehicles.

Regardless of what it should be, it’s actually 50 — so if one chooses to instead drive at 78 on it, you deserve whatever you get.

If you have a clean record show up to court (no lawyer needed) and tell the judge you wish to be sentenced under article 894.

They will make you pay a fine and maybe do defensive driving and then if you don't get in trouble for 6 months it will be dropped

So, I’ve seen the following options so far:
1. Call the DA
2. Hire a traffic lawyer
3. Go to court myself

For those with past experience, what is the best course here?

I've only gone the traffic lawyer route, but I ended up paying a $250 fine and did the online traffic school. I think the ticket was like $680 so I was happy with that
