Specialist Co-Pay for Nurse Practitioner

Dr's office question
Lets say you visit a specialist (gastroenterologist for example) initially. You pay your specialist co-pay and go on about your business. For the follow up appointment, is it normal that these be handed off to a nurse practitioner (in the same clinic)? If so, is it normal to still pay specialist co-pay?

If I'm paying full price I'd rather it be a man.

Nurse practitioners are more educated/trained than what they're allowed to do. You'll be fine seeing an NP

you can always ask to be seen by the dr vs np or pa, you might have to wait but you have the right

Because a NP doesnt know shite compared to a doctor. Why pay the same?

I just wanted to know if that was standard practice. With my insurance, we're only talking a $5 difference, but I still think it's ridiculous to pay for a specialist when you aren't seen by one.

If I wanted to see a NP, then I would make a NP appointment.
I don't, so I make DOCTORS appointments

Because your insurance company allows it to be paid like a doctor. They choose how much to pay, and have decided NP's and PA's seeing patients ultimately saves them money in the long run. So they agreed to pay those visits as doctor visits.
Bitch at them.

When you go to Morris Bart to sue someone for hitting you in a car accident, you think Morris Bart is the one thats actually handling your case?? No, it some paralegal but guess what, you're still paying the same.
BTW, an NP or a PA knows quite a bit, they know enough hold their own clinic and determine if the patients needs warrant the Doctors attention or not.

I dont see np's. I dont get a new doctor if they employ them either.

I have called them. They dont care who sees you, they pay the same. It is up to the patient to be seen by a properly trained person.
