Yep. When the Apostles spoke in tongues, each person in the audience heard their own language.
If someone is speaking gibberish that nobody understands, they're not speaking in tongues.
I think that this sums it up nicely.

Are you saying you are a pentigoblin?

I was speaking in tongues when I came home last night

Negative. There must be an interpreter. At least one, could be more. But not all in the audience understand the tongues.

Acts 2
When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and hit filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3 And divided tongues is of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
5 Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. 6 And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language. 7 And they were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language?

Can you elaborate? I'm a Catholic but I don't go regularly because like many I don't understand the message or get it.
I highly recommend reading The Mass by Edward Sri. The Mass, from beginning to end, is SOAKED in the Bible.
Even at the very start of Mass when we all make the Sign of the Cross EVEN THAT was foreshadowed by a similar sign in Ezekiel 9:4-6.
It is an absolute tragedy that Catholics don't know the rich history of their faith.
BTW, you don't go to Mass to be entertained, you go because Christ calls you to His table, the Eucharist (John 6). One billion Catholics around the world fulfill the prayer of Christ, that we will be one as He and the Father are one. The Holy Eucharist is the closest thing on earth to humanity being one... together at Christ's table. There is nothing even remotely a close second.
Read what the Church Fathers wrote. Read www.Catholic.com. Read! Read! Read! Don't be the type of Catholic that complains about 'not getting anything out of it' but then doing nothing to understand it.
True story... one of my most Fundamentalist Evangelical friends converted to Catholicism because he read the transcripts of the Council of Trent! He was searching for proof that the Church was the "Whore of Babylon". It ended up bringing him 180-degrees the other way.

I give you 1 Cor 12:10, 1 Cor 14.
Acts is the initial recognition of the Holy Spirit, afterwards gifts were given to different people to spread the word. Read 1 Cor and read church history to understand better.

I've read Eusebius, the Didache as well as many Patristic writings. What did I miss?

For the most part, the person doing it (speaking in tongues) probably didn't get enough attention from their mommy when they were little.
There is nothing wrong with praying, though. Concentrated thought is a good thing. And, in prayer, if you see what an a-hole you really are, convicting yourself is okay, too, because that means there is a way out. You can change for the better. But that doesn't mean you're still not an a-hole. The old saying is, "The Holy Spirit doesn't make me better than you. It makes me better than me." Still an a-hole, though. Just not as big of one.
That's what the concept of the "Holy Spirit" is about.

Its Bethany baw. Like I said Im not overly excited about it. We both are catholic and kids in catholic school but she said she was not getting anything out of the mass when we did go.
Sounds like she wants to be entertained which is a good reason to go to church.

And, what is this "entertainment" shite? So what? Praise and worship is not a bad thing, either. So what if people are entertained? If you like a good song and let's say you do believe in the Bible, then you pretty much are in prayer because praise and worship is what Jesus said was what they should do at the start of praying. "Give thanks." So, all this "entertainment" is really giving thanks in their mind. It's workship, it's praise and actually a form of them praying in their minds. So what? Yeah, if it gets way out of hand and used the wrong way, it's not so good. But a lot of it is for good, at least in their minds.
Hey, these Christian bands are moving forward, like it or not, mainly because they don't sue one another all the time. So, they share their music. They think it is for the glory of God. It's like an open source code. Some of it is very "entertaining". The concerts some of these artists do are also fairly outstanding in a musical sense, if nothing else.
I remember long ago when I was in public radio, the standing joke was, "If we do that, we're gonna get beat by God." In other words, the Christian stations will beat us and they were always at the bottom of the ratings.
That is not the case now. Some of their music is actually pretty good now - and mainly for the reason I just outlined.

Nothing.
Taurus is just regurgitating the BS he's been spoonfed.
Thelma sue spouts out a bunch of jibberish that nobody understands--IN A GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO ALL SPEAK THE SAME LANGUAGE IN THE FIRST PLACE--then her cousin BillyJoeBob jumps up to interpret her message "oh she said we shouldn't sin but we should praise God and read are bibles. But don't read too much, else you'll realize this is a load of crap."
Ok I made up that last part.

If you want to dance and express your elation as you feel filled with the Holy Spirit, that's fine. Do it. But be honest like some of the traditional southern black churches.
They dance and shout, but they're not pretentious like "we're speaking in tongues."

For every fake, there is a miracle that goes unheard. I've experienced several as a direct result of specific prayer.

Sounds more like a spell than a prayer.

I guess I was spoonfed Acts, 1 Cor 12 and 14 from Bibles????
What I said earlier is based on fact. Based off the Bible and based on the history of the books in the Bible. Try researching yourself instead of being spoonfed.

You want general examples or specific? Specific ones to me may not mean as much to others.
