re: Southern Baptist Convention: IVF is a sin

It is definitely a much more morally ambiguous issue than some
especially because you are often dealing with couples strongly desiring to have children and wanting to be mothers and fathers and raise a family. Raising a family is a noble cause. I can not pretend to know what it is like to be denied that naturally. You also get to see the fruition of human life, many lives worth living were born forth through IVF and casting doubt into the practices of IVF feels like you are casting doubt to the legitimacy of those lives
I do see some potential moral issues with altruistic surrogacy but I think commercial surrogacy is where things get less ambiguous for me.

Unless you are Jewish those are ridiculous arguments

Part of the reason why people should leave the church

I literally posted an article showing that the most common way IVF clinics get rid of excess embryos is throwing them in a trash can.
I'm guessing that it is up to the laws of each state. I can tell you that 16 years ago in LA it was and probably still is illegal to discard viable embryos that come from the IVF process.

Being Baptist is a sin. They’re an odd bunch.

I think there are both federal and State IVF laws, but that is another issue in itself. Practices, penalties, fines are all over the place. IVF is practice of modernity and is more of a jumble of practices and rules from state and regulatory bodies, so you have to speak pretty broadly about it
That is one of the problems with commercializing the industry. I absolutely believe that there are those that work within the industry that believe they are doing the morally right thing and making families whole and happy. But the commercialization does not allow the IVF industry to be separated from those that see embryos as commodities for profit with negligible purpose or potential outside of simply providing what they view as a medical procedure. That embryo is simply inventory for them to be used or disgarded as they see fit once it is past that usefulness

If you have a moral issue with IVF….DON’T frickING DO IT then
But your religious hang ups don’t get to dictate what other couples decide to do to have a family

LOL...BS...God gave us science for a reason. And an embryo not planted in a woman is not life. And this is all pertaining to a political play in an election year. A political play 100%.

Stating my beliefs has no influence on your ability to do anything just as your value system has no sway over me. We will both live our lives as we see fit and deal with the consequences

Not all religious folks think like you….they absolutely want their beliefs to dictate laws (look at the pro life folks wanting abortion bans)

God tells us to be fruitful and multiply. He doesn’t really specify how
I’d argue he gifted us with the knowledge to discover the scientific secrets of His creation and to use them to achieve good things
Women have natural miscarriages which is their body rejecting fertilized embryos. Also these frozen embryos are viable to be a life but I don’t think they’re a life at that point. My reasoning is this: if you freeze an embryos it can be used to create a life. If you freeze a human being they die. You cannot bring them back. So frozen embryos are not yet a human being

I’m helping abortion rights be on the ballot in AZ. We absolutely are getting that message out. And anticipate many Republican women to vote in favor of abortion rights. Hell I’ve had multiple Republican woman sign our petitions to get it to a vote. They don’t want the government telling them what they can and cannot do with their bodies.
Just like they did for every other red state that has recently put abortion rights to a vote.

I would agree but a commercialized industry writ large would make no distinction between the two as long as the money is there
