Humanity would only cease to exist without bees, no big deal though right.

I haven't seen this, but as someone who has grown food for a living, I can assure you that bees are wonderful and necessary creatures.

The pictures are heartbreaking: Millions of honeybees lie dead after being sprayed with an insecticide targeting Zika-carrying mosquitoes.

It's nice to be proactive, but unintended consequences from major action are a real bitch. I don't know enough to say what they should have done, but I know it wasn't this.

well, if they killed off some folks' hives, they'll just have to pay to have them replaced. I think the whole thing about bees being endangered is a bunch of bullshite...if it was that big an issue, we should just give incentive for people to set up and care for more hives.

If you were the beekeeper whose livelihood was just destroyed, or the farmer who depended on the bees for pollination, yeah, I'll bet you'd be heartbroken. These threads really illustrate the urban-rural divide. Some of you frickers have no idea how your food gets to the supermarket.

Up next, OT hardasses complaining about "frivolous lawsuits" when the beekeepers sue for damages.

The sad part is we have the tech to eliminate only species of mosquitos that carry human disease, but we refuse to use it and instead pour billions into abatement that affects all sorts of insects, good and bad.

I'm cool with bees and wasp. They never bother me and I don't bother them.

I've been stung once by both, but I was reaching into something and didn't know they were there.

Insects fascinate me for some reason. I like watching them work.

What's that? I like most insects so I'm interested in this.

Mosquitoes are one of the very few insects I have no issue with killing.

We can genetically modify mosquitos to have sterile offspring.
