My 6th Great Grandfather was a fellow named Conrad Weiser. He was a liaison between the Iroquois nation and the pre revolutionary settlers in the New York/Pennsylvania regions.
LINK
His two grandsons and my Great 4 times uncles were Frederick and Peter Muhlenberg.
Peter Muhlenberg was a general in the continental army and with Washington at Valley Forge.
Frederick Muhlenberg was the first speaker of the House of representatives.
Found out within the last 10 years through lineage (not DNA/23&me) that these guys are blood family members.
Very proud of that.

So, you’re a damn Yankee?
I do have a yankee side of the family. One of my great-great grandfathers was in the 4th Iowa Cavalry. A couple of other great-great-great uncles were in Iowa and Indiana units.
I’ve tracked down at least forty Confederate ancestors, from three great-great grandfathers to over a dozen great-great-great uncles and the rest distant cousins who all fought, some bled, and a few died for the Confederacy.
One fought for both sides.
My son will have the real interesting stuff to research. Just in the 20th century he has had relatives in the military of the United States, Great Britain, Australia, Canada, Germany, and Yugoslavia.

My grandfather many generations up, with my last name, the first of that side of the family to be born in America, fought in the 1st North Carolina Regiment under George Washington. He arrived in Washington's camp in the spring right after the brutal winter at Valley Forge. I have the research on it.

General Muhlenberg was the inspiration for Muhlenberg County KY that John Prine sings about
"Muhlenberg County was formed in 1798 from the areas known as Logan and Christian counties.Muhlenberg was the 34th county to be founded in Kentucky. Muhlenberg was named after General Peter Muhlenberg, who was a colonial general during the American Revolutionary War"

Do you have any school age kids? My ancestor was also in the Galvez Expedition. I never stayed involved as an adult but as a kid I was in Children of the American Revolution, and we did a lot of civic and historical activities, that in hindsight were extremely educational.

I honestly did not know this but love that song. Very cool
