Now I see why it's expensive.

Perfectly balanced, as all things should be

What could go wrong.

Something to think about on your next flight.

I guess a fast spinning CT scan machine is more scary than finding out if you have brain cancer??

That someone designed something that complicated is pretty much magic to me

Inside of it appears to be the safest place near it.

That is a General electric model VCT, makes one revolution in about .7 seconds. There have been instances of critical bolts failing and a component that weighs about 300 pounds flying off. Due to the centrifugal force it flew outward away from the patient. Besides being able to due a full imaging study in a matter of seconds, the main reason for the high speed is to be able to image a beating heart. It was designed to be a tool for routine cardiac screening that would replace heart caths for most things other than interventional procedures like placing stents. Apparently cardiologist were less than receptive to technology that would reduce their opportunities to perform a heart cath by 75% or so.

I've seen faster scanners in the quad on a Tuesday.

It is just kind of amazing what is going on behind the cover.
Had a CT about 10 years ago, one of the most miserable 45 minutes of my life.

About $3.5 million per machine, slightly used, including installation, last time I priced one out.

Can I get that in a Fleshlight?

Sure that wasn't an MRI?
A CT scan would only take that long if they were scanning damn near everything on your body which only happens in major trauma cases. As in head, C-spine, chest, abdomen, and pelvis.

Oops, you are right it was an MRI.
