A guy who is originally British born, living in New York, buys an old plantation home in Holmes County, MS. The poorest county in the poorest state in America. Just a derogatory romantic accurate depiction of the way of life there. I'm not from Holmes county, but it describes the whole region pretty well.

I'll watch it now, thanks.

I'm from the Coast but stay in Rankin County mostly now.

Holmes county is pretty depressing. Been there a few times.

He seems to border on appreciating the South and shitting on it at the same time.

UK hipster meets MS hipster(s) and then he and his Yankee hipster gf buy old house in Holmes County, MS and make predictable pithy (to them) observations about Holmes County life.

Move along folks, nothing new here to see.

I bet most people on this board don't know that Natchez Mississippi was the richest city in the country before the civil war.

Yeah, there is a reason for that.

One white woman accused me of being racist for wanting to live in Mississippi, even though it’s the blackest state in America and Holmes County is more than 80 per cent African American. ‘All Southerners are racists, and Mississippi is the worst of all,’ she opined.
*How many films have had such a huge cultural impact as Deliverance? It's like the old Li'l Abner/Beverly Hillbillies image of Southerners as friendly (if ignorant) was wiped away in one fell swoop...

I've been looking up homes in Natchez and Vicksburg just for fun (sort of). It's crazy how many large, old Southern homes are for sale.

They surrendered so early in the war. Didn't put up a fight so the yanks didn't torch the town. Vicksburg was a little different. That is why I think it is so nice today. Has a ton of original buildings and NEVER has rebuilt.

smarmy British commentary...

No royals to bow down to and worship in Mississippi. You can marry your cousin, so there's that.
