You are an idiot and need to focus on learning your job along with keeping your job. You probably could not get a job in Louisiana due to your degree is from a mediocre university, attitude, and lack of interning during your summers while in school to build your resume up.

Let’s see would I hire a kid in engineering active in schools engineering club, intered at Nissan, GM, Ford during summer, is in the top of his or her class, and has a real degree from a decent school.

Would I rather hire a mediocre kid, no job or intern history, grades are meh, and has a degree from a below avg college in engineering?

This is not a hard one to choose from.

In Louisiana the democrats ran the oil companies corporate offices out of Louisiana to the Houston area. They fleeced the companies too much where Texas cut their taxes. This was way before you were born, but I guess you knew about this also.

A lot of the ruatbelt mfg came or are coming to the South which started in the past 20 yrs due to Republicans in Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi. These companies left the high taxation democratic union areas in the Midwest due to lower taxes and lower nonunion (democratic) labor cost.

California, the state I left was a great state when Republicans ran it. You were not even close to being born when the cowboy can do attitude made California great. People came to California to make dreams come true with hard work. Former President Reagan, was also the governor back then. The state was growing and attracting businesses. Now with the democrats in control a lot of the illegals took over towns and the middle class whites, black, Latinos, and Asians moved out. These smaller once great towns are having financial problems having to cut services. The taxes along with horriable regulations have ran a lot of companies across the state line to Arizona and Nevada.

Please in your lack of time out in the real world with your mediocre degree, by the way both of mine are from UCLA, please tell me about how democrats are making things better?

The south was democrat for a hundred years, it was still poor.

Now that it’s been republican for about 50, it’s beginning to overcome natural geographic disadvantages.

Also, the state constitutions of Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, and Texas all had major elements designed to combat the swell of carpet baggers from the north taking over everything.

Beautiful. Provide a lifetime of welfare against the conservatives wishes...then blame conservatives for having perpetually poor people in their state. Only the mind of a liberal.

I find that all the places that support these liberal utopia ideologies are all places that have the demographics to support that type of mindset. When 90%+ of your population is one demographic, cares about education, contributes to society, and doesn’t have children simply based on a food stamp increase; then you can actually employ these types of programs for the 10-15% of the population that needs them.

With Louisiana demographics; 60% of the population lives off the government and the other 40% of the state is trying to keep the state above water. After years and years of this, animosity starts to grow as we see why we can’t have nice things.

I agree. This is the common scenario that most people on here overlook. You shouldn't push for a cause just because it upsets the other side.

To be fair. A lot of anti abortion people have religious reasons or simply think its morally wrong.

But this issue is a really a double edged sword. If you outlaw abortion, only 2 results are practically guaranteed

1. You create a black market. Your taxes are "spared" but the actually act still occurs.

2. The welfare state inevitably gets larger, and our taxes pay for it. Because the real problem is that single motherhood is rapidly rising and most women are going to vote for their security.

The initial cost of abortion still vastly outweighs the government taking care of the kid that dad abandoned for 18 years, through the juvenile system for various crimes, and eventually the hundreds of thousands it’s going to cost to hold him in the prison/court system because he can’t assimilate to society like a normal person.

By fear, I meant fear of positive changes the state needs. By bigotry, that we need to evaluate people by who they are. Plenty of racism in the world, but that's not what I blame.

Every state has its favorites, but governance of the state and the " good old boy" network has made people leave who otherwise would have been a net positive.

And as others have stated, LA was so concerned about social conservative that they pushed out a politician who could help the state.

how about we just put restrictions and lifetime caps on welfare for those that aren't mentally disabled.

This is all the American left has been reduced...They can't understand things like economics so they just claim "racism, bigotry and fear" whenever things aren't going their way.

Okay. I can understand and live with that. Contrary to what you may believe, I always chastise myself for my bad life decisions.

If I did it all over again, I would take the construction management or process technology route. I may do it still, who knows. My biggest mistake was not choosing the right major for my goals.

But God made it all work out in the end by me being punctual, doing good work, and listening to my superiors.

I almost joined the armed forces. But as I continued to work and build experience outside of academia, I got better job offers.

My point is, I recognize my faults, but I also recognize LA has a lack of businesses. This is from knowing people who graduated Tech and speaking to people who are alumni from schools like LSU who moved for better opportunities.

Sound familiar?

I know about the politics that plagued Louisiana and put it where we are today.

I agree with this. The only thing we need is to have a strict criteria on what constitutes "disabled" to protect the system.

I advocate working for welfare. So any suggestion like this is good.

I agree with you on some things; Louisiana has no shortage of issues that hinder our ability to attract out of state employers and potential employees, but racism has nothing to do with it. Louisiana has some pretty terrible demographics, the worst education system in the country, and our two largest cities are ran by AA democratics, who care nothing about the economy and only about pandering for more votes by beating the ‘oppression drum’

Agree 100%, but neither party has been good in regards to moving the state forward.

But I find a majority of the populace in this state to embrace mediocrity. It’s as though the thought of success or achievement is feared. Like they’ll lose their identity if we become successful like the places mentioned by the OP.
You know how many times I’ve heard the locals deride cities like Houston or ATL? It’s like they enjoy last place, shitty roads, and crappy infrastructure. I can truly say I’ve never seen a place embrace the status quo the way La does.

But I do see signs of change. So I hope there is hope. Doubt it will happen in
My lifetime tho.
