Soldier needed ear transplant, US Army grows ear in her arm, transplants it successfully.

Instead, plastic surgeons used the soldier’s own cartilage. The ear was later attached to Burrage’s head by surgeons at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso. The Army said Burrage recovered her hearing and that the operation was a success, according to a statement on Monday.

Highly misleading article. That piece of cartilage on the side of your head helps to direct sound waves into the ear canal but doesn’t have anything to do with hearing. That all occurs internally. This operation is all about physical appearance and not hearing.
