Let's use NCs 1983 reference. That year the max contribution to SS was around $2k. This year, it's around $11,500.

(2) 1980-2024 Caps/Rates in 2024 Dollars

In 1984 Median HHI was $60,420 (in 2024$).
MaxSS/MdHHI = 22%
In 2024 the max contribution to SS was around $20,906.
In 2024 Median HHI was $83,730.

What point are you trying to make? No matter how you slice it, the rate wasn't what it is now until 1990.
E.g., in the run up to the 1983 SS Bill increasing tax, caps, retirement ages, taxes on benefits, etc, preceding gens were paying 1/2 to 2/3rds the payroll tax rate that was slapped onto boomers. Whereas your concern is the <1/10th difference between 5.7% (1984-87) and 6.2% (1990-2024).
The bottomline though, something you hopefully will come to understand at some point, is that SS screws the vast majority of its contributors -- in every generation. In a day and age of easily managed and customized retirement accounts and electronic trading, there is virtually zero personal need of, or excuse for, SS.
So rather than bitching that someone else is being served larger portions of a rancid dinner, perhaps focus on why the food being served is rancid in the first place.

Honestly, this is the most boomer mentality I have seen yet. Still carrying bills after retirement.

It's not a "bill" becuase I use the SS benefit that I don't need to pay the lease.

You're spinning hard to prove my point with these jumbled tables using mixed base dollars. I didn't guess on any of the numbers I posted, and you should know that since you've been around long enough to see me post from your side of the fence.
Highlight what you disproved about my point if you did. I don't see it other than maybe some rounding and source based deltas.

The best we can possibly hope for given our political climate is that the SSTF just runs out of money and benefits are automatically cut to match inflows, thus depriving the federal government of another form of borrowing for other projects.
I'd be willing to pay into it for the rest of my life without receiving a dime if it guaranteed my kids wouldn't be subject to it. But that will never happen.

I wasn't really attempting to disprove anything per se. The effort is in helping folks like yourself understand who the actual "enemy" is in the SS mudhole.
Which of your posts are you concerned was called to question?
Posted on 10/15/26 at 4:04 pm to NC_Tigah
Who is looking for an enemy? I just think boomers should be forever grateful that we will keep up the house of cards long enough for them to die as the biggest beneficiaries of the scheme. As opposed to the general "frick you I'm getting mine" sentiment held by a majority of them according to every poll ever run on the topic.
Millenials will almost certainly eat a loss to spare their kids and grandkids. Boomers generally find the idea offensive. Again, based on national polls not just the dozen or so badass, bootstraping old guys that post here.

DC politicians DO NOT WANT THAT.
They want SS expanded to increase their borrow, exactly as you delineate.

It also tanked because from 2002-2006 when we finally had Republicans in charge of the WH and both houses of Congress for the first time in almost 50 years, in a post 9/11 environment they did absolutely nothing to secure the borders or remove the millions of illegals that were already here. In fact they basically ignored the issue entirely (in true rino fashion) until they ran on fixing it during election season. Of course we all knew by then they were full of it. So they got wiped out in 2006 and Obama rolled in to destroy it all in 2008.
The seeds of Trump getting elected by promising to secure the border were sown during those 4 years of Republican ineptitude

I just think boomers
But you are following the magician's distraction in one hand, while the trick is being executed in the other. I'm alerting you to it. Yet you're still focused on the shiny distraction.
quote:(1) Expecting anyone to be "grateful" for getting ripped off by SS is absurdly dumb.
I just think boomers should be forever grateful that we will keep up the house of cards long enough for them to die as the biggest beneficiaries of the scheme.
(2) To date, no group in history has been forced to pay more into the SS scheme than those whom you say should be grateful. They got screwed.
(3) I say "to date," because there is no doubt in my mind that Uncle Sam will try to further fleece future generations, as he's thus far been able to convince American Idiots that SS is a ""benefit"" to contributors. If you play along unfocused on the actual action, you'll get screwed harder than your progenitors.
(4) Based on #3, there is not a chance in hell "the house of cards" will be ""allowed"" to collapse. That will not happen ... unless voters force it to happen. Until you understand that, until you understand the game afoot, you will be told to pay more, and more, and more, and instructed to blame it on others who previously suffered the same fate.

The "blame Boomers " crowd always gets owned by facts.
But it's easy to say, and you don't have to have any critical thinking skills.

You suddenly decided to shut down because of a word that triggered you. I was laughing off your silliness. How on earth did you twist that into me being affected?
I guess it's getting too close to sunset for you, gramps. Pick it up at dawn.
