I have been mulling over quitting drinking really just for health purposes. That being said have any of you lost friends due to this?

Are you under 25? Frequently going to bars kind of ends once you are married with kids.

Firends? You're not sober.

Is that what happens when you turn 25?

You won't lose friends. However, you will get rid of some people you don't need in your life

Friends, much like keys and dignity, are easily lost when you are drinking.

Truth.

1. Get a wife unit.
2. Have kid(s) with her.
3. Be a good dad/spouse.

This will preclude problem drinking if you are truly doing #3.

Life is easy if you don't overthink it.

Recovering addict here.

The "friends" you lose because you get sober were never really friends. I found that when I got sober my real friends understood and didn't tempt me to drink. The douchebags that want to drag me down with them stopped calling.

It was a win win situation

Yea, but drinking doesn't.

I scaled back big time on my drinking about a year and a half ago. My social scene actually improved because of it. Do more different things, camping, hang out with successful and attractive people.

I think one needs to drop in and out of regular friendships. It's kinda like dating you find out what you really like.

My firends never go out, they are always blazing new trails and are hot, hot, hot!

Absolutely! But is that really an issue? You're talking about your health. Once you decide what's best for you, you'll find who your friends really are. Now isn't that a win, win?

if the only thing that you have in common with a friend is drinking, then yes, you will not likely continue to be close friends with that person...but then that really much of a basis for a friedship anyway...

honestly, everyone slacks up on the drinking at some point. those who don't ultimately die from it. I am betting that those friends that you lose if you quit drinking come right back once they taper off as well...

Working on 14 months of sobriety here. I have lost contact with several of my drinking buddies but the people that really care about me are still around. I have also found new friends that like to do cool things that don't revolve around getting drunk. In other words, there is no downside to being sober.
