My good buddy lived in Inman for years, we always felt safe walking to Little 5 or North Highland if we were in groups, but nobody does that anymore because there is a better than 10% chance you'll be mugged, and the cops will not even stop the shady looking criminals anymore, they will stop the white hipsters and tell them to get their arse in an Uber.

I agree felt crime is up, but statistically your chances of being mugged is still very low, as it is almost everywhere in Atlanta.

I'm not really defending the trend, I'm jut saying the majority of people living in Atlanta feel relatively safe in their day to day and it's because you get patterned to living in an area with more threats such that you don't really even know you're guarding against them until you leave.

Pools contain water, I see a problem here.

To be fair, Dickens just took office in January and is trying to clean up Bottom's mess, and she left a hell of a big one. He needs more than 4 months to clean this up.

Dickens at least seems to be earnestly caring as opposed to KLB who spent most of 2019-2020 trying to become Biden's running mate.

I was going to steal a Silvarado from a parking deck I've been casing, and then drive over to Techwood and shoot that dealer who is moving into our spot, then back to my boy's crackhouse for some fenny and pussy, but then I heard about this late night basketball game down at the rec center so I'm really weighing my options right now.

Eh. My sister and BIL have lived in W.Midtown at two different addressees for 6 years and they have never had an issue.

All those neighborhoods that you mentioned have had a high % of gentrification the last 15 years or so and are pretty safe.

Just stay out of the ghettos.

Midnight basketball games end after midnight, and I'm sure the players will all shake hands and just head home.

I had this experience. I've posted about it before but here it goes again.

I Lived in Cenla my entire life. I always knew Alexandria was bad, but I grew up in the GD so I knew where to go and how to not get caught in a jam. My thought was that the crime was overblown and if you knew what you're doing you'd be fine. Didn't think there was anything strange about making sure a gun was within reach in case of a home invasion. Those things happened, but they likely don't end up with anyone dead. If the past is any indicator it just means that someone thought the house was empty. No big deal to scare them off with a gun.

We moved up here and went downtown one day to sightsee. I was on guard from the onset. A Hispanic man with his family walked up to me when we were near the Capitol. He asked me if I could take a photo of them with the capitol in the backdrop. Alarm bells were going off, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt because he had 3 young kids with him. The only people that walk up to you soliciting ANYTHING are people trying to get you. I took the camera and did a full look-around to check my surroundings, shot my wife a quick glance (she was also very on guard at this point) to keep an eye out. I stepped back, took the photo, handed the camera back to the guy. He smiled, thanked me, and walked away with his wife and children.

It was only then I realized how guarded I was because I grew up in a, very literally, unsafe place. Unrelated, but about about a month after we moved my mom was robbed at gunpoint and car jacked in her driveway. 2 guys about 15-16 years old, cops said it was a crime of opportunity.

I dont have a problem with Dickens so far. He is a change-up to atlanta politics. That could be a good thing.

More city programs isnt a bad thing either.
Will it have any effect on crime?
Who knows.
Pair it with community policing and actually get a DA to do the job, and atlanta could possibly change the momentum of crime since 2020.
