The balloon was the size of 3 city busses. It was a big fricking balloon.

Not like it was a birthday balloon that needed a horse cock-sized lens to see it.

They started recovery and diving operations almost immediately. A few articles I read said the US probably gathered more data from circling it for days and sponging up all the data it was trying to transmit than they will from whatever is recovered.

I read there was no warhead to minimize damage. They likely choose to avoid 20mm cannon for same reason. 10k foot difference also likely made cannons unreliable.
