That's cute that you believe the publicly available number.

I'm curious about how many actual SEALS you know. Go ahead.

Just for clarity SMU’s consist of: Delta, Regimental Recon Comapny from 75th, DEVRGRU, and the Air Force’s 24th Special Tactical Squadron. None of this stuff is classified by the way

Nothing wrong with SOCOM. Most SEALs are garbage, and I say that with first hand kinetic mission experience with them. Out of working with a whole platoon of them I only liked one, and it’s no surprise that the one I liked was the only seal able to go on missions with one of the oda teams I also went on missions with.

Committing to writing a book after you get out is also a prerequisite to being selected.

Disagree. SOCOM is a huge problem. There's a good discussion on this very issue on the poliboard right now. LINK

No offense but I don’t really care what the Politards are saying. I will agree that the Military as a whole is a shite show, but don’t let the bad apples outshine the fine men of our special operations community. Case in point, SSG Melgar allegedly doing the right thing.

I'll refer you to the link just above your post. Pretty good discussion in there with a lot of experienced military dudes including former SOF operators.

You know Raiders are the coolest frat that nobody really even talks about.

How many I know? One. Had 3 pretty good friends that were on Extortion 17 though.

And more importantly I was in the military myself for 26 years and can tell you that what you know publicly isn't what exists on most things, do you really believe that the military has allowed the real number of SEAL teams we have to become public knowledge?

My problems with SOCOM have very little to do with how professional or not the operators are, except for the SEALs of course, and more to do with what it's done to the military as a whole. The existence of SOCOM and it's unchecked funding and constant lust to find more and more missions, the majority of which could be accomplished by conventional forces, is the problem. I'm not shitting on anybody....except the SEALs of course.

I don't know why you're being such a fricking dick. I know for sure that one is retired Green Beret and one is a Recon Marine. Calm your tits.

This is why I don’t take what the poliboard says seriously
quote:

It's to the point that they really aren't even military anymore. They have little supervision, no grooming standards, and basically have a license to kill as they see fit

I don’t even know where to begin with this but it’s untrue. Grooming standards are mission dependent, they definetely have supervision, and they can’t/don’t go around killing anyone they see fit.

In theory I agree with you. In practicality it would cost way too much (financially and politically) for conventional forces to do what special ops are doing now.

You do you man. I don't really care. The poliboard is like every other board here. You have to sift though mountains of stupidity to find anything worthwhile, just like the OT or the rant.

Not sure how you come to that conclusion. Reduce funding to the special units and give it back to the conventional units and stop fleecing them of their best people.

Wait what? Fleecing them of their best people? Explain.

Also, conventional units played a big role in liberating Iraq along with the surge in Afghanistan. Conventional units will always play a huge role in major conflicts. It would be a total misallocation of resources to have conventional units conduct special operation missions just because you don’t deem them special. That isn’t what conventional units are for.
