What I learned after Katrina the storm is really not the worst part and people do not understand that. It is being completely cut off from everything after the storm. Even if some how you make it through the storm unfazed not power gas food stores closed streets blocked etc..

Some people just have no clue how flooding and storm surge work beyond the wind. The strength of the home against the wind is only one of the issues.

Yup. Water has about the same compressibility as STEEL. Not even concrete fairs very well up against hours of pounding from a 150mph+ wind driven storm surge.

That's certainly part of it, but his storm, like Katrina, is particularly dangerous. It's an absolutely enormous storm that generates power quickly. Once this thing leaves Cuba it will be back over open water and strengthen again. Make no mistake. This is a mother fricker of a storm.

This is where people screw up. The think just because my roof is rated for 150 mph wind gusts and have hurricane strapping in the walls/top plate/rafters that the are ok. WRONG!! the wall of water is what destroys most of these structures that are close to a body of water.
