Just buy a knockoff as a replacement and claim that you were duped because you don't know anything about purses. Apologize for the mistake but let her know that you don't have the cash to pay for a second replacement.

Stop being cheap. You should have watched your dog, but you were lazy and just let him/her out the door. It ain’t worth the hassle of dealing with your wife and her friend.

She could also hook if you want her to earn extra money if she is so concerned about her friend’s purse.
