Have a niece that faced this same ugly truth a few years ago. Went to private school growing up and graduated from Clemson. Joined some teacher of America crap out of college and they shipped her off to some shite hole in South Florida. Reality set in very fast.

My cousin did the same thing. Graduated and got a job teaching grade school in Bessemer, AL. She lasted a year and then got a job at a bank.

Lusher, Audubon, Hynes, Lycee Francais, Harte, etc. aren't the only charter schools man. It seemed like charter schools were the new scheme for a while. These fly by night charter schools would come in, do horribly, and lose their charter only for another one to swoop right in.

it was his idea, guess he had some friends for the neighborhood going there. He is on the football team, so maybe that was what made him want to go , luckily my buddy works there and is going to look out for him

I used to work in New Orleans (in the public schools). It was definitely an experience to say the least but I loved my kids.

The first week or two of calling roll is a trip. Some of those names just defy all laws of spelling and pronunciation such as "Ercia" being pronounced "Erica".

Then there is the old belief that kids of cultcha don't believe in starting school till after Labor Day, when they casually stroll in.

Major behavior problems are inevitable. Many parents are ignorant and entitled. Others can be very nice. I always found that because i was so good to my kids that if I did fuss at them then their parents would back me up because their kids always told them how i was good to them and fair.

For all that my kids could aggravate me and wear me out, they also made me laugh on a daily basis. But I taught the youngest kids who are still little and affectionate for the most part.

Good luck to your future DIL. She is definitely in for the experience of a lifetime, especially as this is her first year. Sadly she may spend more time on behavior management, writing up problem kids and dealing with dumbass parents than she will actually teaching.

One kid has been having major behavioral problems. Cursing (lots of F words) and flipping off teachers, telling them frick you, etc. Mother gets called in for the purpose of telling her the kid has to go and can't return until he gets some intervention of some sort. Mother storms into the cafeteria screaming at everybody, cussing, getting into peoples faces, making a huge scene. My future DIL was speechless.
i'm surprised this wasn't already expected. it seems fairly obvious.
tell her to quit if she doesn't like it.
there's a million other teaching jobs out there that she is capable of handling.
as a teacher you have to student teach.
typically that exposes you to the harsh realities of teaching non private.

Do the teachers at the charter schools participate in the state teachers retirement? Or does each charter have its own retirement plan, no retirement plan, something else?

One of my friends is an elementary school teacher in Baton Rouge. She told me one day a student told her that he would "frick her till her nose bled." She called the father into school, and he licked his lips and said "my son has good taste."

For the overwhelming majority of street kids..............they're already lost by the time they get to middle school.

I had a lot of teacher friends in Nola. Most in elementary school. A couple have stayed on. But I'll never forget one who moved back to California after her second student of the school year was murdered. It's a very tough job.

She will get a dose of reality and you will not see her at any BLM movements after this experience.

At least most charters have a 0 tolerance policy, public schools usually do not
