I actually know a couple of those guys as well...I am sometimes a little skeptical that they are as bad off as they say. However, both say the same thing in that it has ruined their life.
First, let me say that I have no doubt that there are veterans and civilians who have had, and are still having, health issues related to over exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam. However, your skepticism is possibly justified. There are people out there who will take advantage of any situation, whether for monetary gain or just public sympathy.
There's a new book out titled Dreams of my Comrades about a WWII Navy SeaBee. The guy was being treated for PTSD by the VA for years. As he got more infirm and his mobility more limited, the psychologist went to his home to treat him. Turns out he was never in combat. He was just a nut, who apparently was getting off on the attention. A convincing nut, but a nut nevertheless.

People burn the system everywhere. Your example does nothing to dispute Agent Orange.

Pain from what? What condition was caused by AO that causes his pain?

frick you. What have you ever done?
Many of these guys had to travel thousands of miles to fight an invisible enemy against their will. If they play anything up, it’s not for pussies like you to call them out on it.

I wonder what kids today would do, if there was suddenly a draft and if their number is pulled, they have to go train for a few weeks then get on a plane to fly out to some country where they can't tell the good guys from the bad guys..
My mom and dad have told me stories of people they knew who got drafted. My dad was just old enough to not be in the system to get drafted, but I remember them telling me about one guy they knew, who decided to go to jail instead of Vietnam.
A guy who was my boss years ago was in Vietnam. He actually got in trouble and it was his second time getting arrested with drugs and he had a choice. Go to jail for so many years or go to Vietnam, he went to Vietnam. He told me the worst thing that was done was make everyone serve 1 year tours. He said that the closer it got to people's year, they would do anything they could to not go into battle. They would hide out, etc.. It killed morale.
Some guy who would come by the house to talk to my dad from time to time.. He told my dad that on a good night, he sleeps about 3 hrs a night. Ever since he came home from Vietnam, he couldn't sleep. He had nightmares a lot when he first returned.. Said he still had them from time to time, but I don't think anyone can understand what those guys went through.

Agent Orange is real. I suffer from the effect s that made me loose my thyroid s
I suffer from PTSD. Too bad the V A has no feelings toward us. The benefits are harder to get than they should be but.....
I am grateful to have been successful in person and in my career. I am proud to have served with some fantastic people and honor their sacrifice every day
I am a witness

Been there done that, I earned the right to call it as I see it.

Why do people start sentences with “so, ...” these days? Did I miss the memo.

it angers me to no end the way y'all have been treated. my great uncle did 3 tours, had to have brain surgery a few years ago and came out with retrograde amnesia. fricking sad and horrible shite. the gov't, especially republicans, talk a big game about supporting veterans, but try to cut their legs out from under them at every opportunity. if there's anything that i'm ashamed of america for, that's up there at the top.

Was I trying to "dispute Agent Orange"? Why do you suppose this sentence was the first line of my post?

I lost a first cousin to agent orange a few years ago. He didn't get benefits until near the end of his life. Sad situation.

Jesus you sound like a self righteous douche. Are we really to the point that we can’t acknowledge that some disabled vets, just like some disabled civilians, don’t play the system? If you believe 100% of every disabled veteran in US history was truly disabled then you likely need your brain checked out. You might qualify for a check too. N

Met a dude in 1980 that was eat up with that shite. Can’t say but I bet he didn’t last another couple years. My wife’s uncle told us they would call in an airstrike, they would bunker down with raincoats over their heads, and the planes would rain agent orange all over them. Within hours the jungle would defoliate. They would be soaked. He died 10 yrs ago.

There are definitely people around every corner looking to scheme the system, but the system is a complete enabler.
Example- a very close family member was in Vietnam. Spent a few years in the Navy, but never saw any action. Since then, has worked his arse off, never looked for a handout, and kept in decent health. Didn't wear ear protection during his career and eventually needed hearing aids. Had never been to the VA before but found out he could get a better deal on them if he did, so he honestly filled out his paper work decades after leaving the service and went to get checked out. Since that time, he has been told that most of his hearing and musculoskeletal ailments weren't from working 40 years at a blue collar job, but were in fact from Agent Orange exposures on his ship, and the VA has since been throwing stuff at him left and right. He has gotten his hearing aids, but also a dose of how ridiculously easy it is for those wanting to scheme the system to get what they want
